Result – WILLIAMS BEATS SELT

Matt can’t make much of another half chance following a blockbuster of a long pot and when Mark rolls a red from right to left to the corner pocket, there’s an air of inevitability about it all.
Another red to the same pocket is pretty much frame ball and Mark clears up to the final red to complete victory well before the clock runs out.

WILLIAMS 35-1 SELT

Not that Williams struggles for support in these parts, but he quickly has the crowd purring with a routine pot on the yellow to its home pocket.
A delightful split of the pack puts him firmly in the driving seat as he teases a red up to middle right before easing the blue to the opposite pocket.
It looks like the Welsh Potting Machine will run riot but he somehow fails to sink the pink to the middle left and his run ends on 35.
Selt’s eyes light up, but he makes a mess of his position following the initial pot on the red and Mark breathesa sigh of relief.

Result – MILKINS 51-33 GRAHAM

That was a tough one for Graham with Milkins having more than his fair share of the rub of the green.
Next up, it’s the final match of the night as Matthew Selt faces Mark Williams.

MILKINS 43-33 GRAHAM

The Milkman’s delivery has gone awry it seems as he blows a couple of chances, with the second on a red to middle right that leaves the door open for Graham.
The Scot has had to be patient but makes quick work of wiping out Milkins’ lead.
A red along the baulk cushion is followed by a brown to the green pocket – and then disaster as a red also goes in for a foul!
Robert takes charge with less than a minute to go. What a let off!

MILKINS 33-0 GRAHAM

The Milkman is first to show, knocking in a couple of red-black combos before an explosive and perhaps fortunate pot on a red to the green pocket leads to him opting for the conservative approach.
He plays a safety to the pink now resting close to the baulk cushion. It's a smart move too as he’s in again sharply, cutting a pink to the yellow pocket with the rest. Once more, he plays to protect the lead and Graham’s need to go for his shots leads to another opening for Milkins.

Result – PETROV 19-31 CLARKE

The Estonian sinks a red but he runs out of time attacking the black and Clarke survives a topsy-turvy encounter to reach the Last 64.
The penultimate match tonight sees Robert Milkins face off with Liam Graham.

PETROV 18-31 CLARKE

Again, Andres can’t do more than edge a lead rather than really give Jamie something to truly think about.
The Welshman sets about eating into the advantage, but another fail with the rest down the left rail leaves him aghast.
Petrov thinks it’s his match, but blows a blue to middle left and the pendulum swings Clarke’s way.
It’s been a poor standard out there, but Clarke finally seizes control with less than a minute to go.

PETROV 11-11 CLARKE

All square with four minutes to go, but Clarke is again frustrated as he fails to sink a red with the rest. It’s up for grabs and very much anyone’s match from here.

PETROV 11-0 CLARKE

Jamie can’t hide his frustration as he undercuts a stray red to the middle right bag.
Petrov uses the let-off to lead off a safety exchange and then sizzles down a red to open the scoring following a slow start.
He gets a fortunate kiss to land on the brown and despatches that to the green pocket. However, he is soon chasing the cue ball and a run of 11 gives Clarke more than enough hope – and time - to turn this around.

Next up...

Estonia’s Andres Petrov meets local favourite Jamie Clarke

Result – BURDEN 59-5 HILL

Alfie is disappointed not to have finished the job on his next visit as a cut on a tough red fails to get past the near jaw.
Hill goes for broke on a long red to the bottom right but it’s no surprise to see it flash back out.
There’s less than a minute to go as Burden continues to add to his tally and in the end it’s an easy win for the Englishman.

BURDEN 15-5 HILL

Aaron gets a nick off another red as he flukes one to the corner right via the rest to get on the board. A brown to the yellow pocket follows but his position is way off and he’s forced to retreat up the left rail towards baulk.
It’s not looking like his night as a couple of ricochets sees the cue ball roll into the left middle bag and you sense it’s Burden’s to lose now.

BURDEN 11-0 HILL

That’s serious hard lines for Hill.
He takes on a red to the bottom left pocket but it bounces off the cushion and darts straight into the middle of the green pocket.
Burden races to the table but can only muster six and Hill remains in contention.

Four matches to go!

Alfie Burden versus Aaron Hill is on the agenda now.

Result – ALY ELSAYED 47-50 SAENGKHAM

Ahmed mops up to the final red and gets a lucky snooker behind the black.
Noppon escapes and time is on his side with four points in it and 20 seconds to go.
The American clips in that final red but the cue ball won’t stop in time for h8im to take on a colour that would have nicked the win.

ALY ELSAYED 32-50 SAENGKHAM

‘Noppon, Noppon, Noppon…’
The crowd get behind the underdog and he responds as Ahmed leaves the door ajar.
It’s steady work from Noppon but his break comes to a surprising end on 50 with a miss on a red down to the middle right pocket.
Just under a minute and a half to go… Still time for Ahmed.

ALY ELSAYED 32-0 SAENGKHAM

Ouch. Noppon watches on in agony as his failure on a red ends with the brown making its way to the middle left.
It sets Ahmed up nicely to build a big lead and he chalks up a solid 32 before the black down to the middle right catches the near jaw and stays out.
It’s a shame for the American but he’s safe in baulk with just over five minutes to go.

Result – HAMILTON 54-5 MINK

Hamilton finally gets a roar from the crowd with a spectacular long-range yellow.
He fouls in the final seconds and Mink is all smiles again despite not managing to pull off a pot.
It was business-like from the Englishman but full credit to Mink for playing with such joy.
Let's hope Ahmed Aly Elsayed v Noppon Saengkham is just as fun.

HAMILTON 34-0 MINK

It’s not Mink’s night. She takes on another long red to the bottom right corner but it just won’t go down. She did everything right there too.
Hamilton seizes upon the opening and it’s surely all over now as he steadily adds to his advantage.
He plays another safety off the green to baulk and is heckled with shouts of ‘boring!’

HAMILTON 25-0 MINK

Mink is all giggles at the crowd’s antics at the break-off but her winning smile is great to see.
Hamilton is poker-faced until a couple of poor attempts leave him grimacing in irritation. But wait, Mink is unlucky with a rocket of a red that jumps out of the pocket and Anthony charges over to guide one down to the bottom left.
The Englishman chalks up a tidy haul of 20 and Mink has another nibble, but again the red refuses that chance to land in the bottom left pocket.
Indeed, it’s far from smooth out there with both players squandering some decent openings, but it’s time that threatens to be Mink’s biggest foe as we pass the halfway mark with Hamilton adding to his lead.

Result – LONG 52-24 FORD

Ford needs something special and delivers with a stonking red to the yellow pocket.
However, he can only clock up an eight and Ford can’t wait to shake hands with just under a minute to go.
Next up, it's Anthony Hamilton against Mink Nutcharut.

LONG 51-16 FORD

How’s your luck? Not bad at all says Long with a beaming grin as a red up to the green pocket flies off the jaw and down into the bottom left.
Ford can’t believe it and his shock turns to dismay as Long hits the front on the board with just over two minutes to go.

LONG 0-16 FORD

Tom Ford is first show and gets a fortuitous cannon off a long red to the bottom left before rattling in the brown to the green pocket.
A lovely long red leaves him nicely on the pink to middle right but just as it seems he is in unflappable mode he catches the near jaw of the middle right pocket and there’s finally a chance for Long Zehuang.

Result – JONES 2-39 CARTY

That foul on the black proves to be Jones’s downfall as Carty again teases the crowd by faking a pot on the yellow. It’s a decent snooker though and with less than a minute to go Jak says ‘fair play’ and offers his hand.

JONES 2-38 CARTY

Ash notches up a sharp break of 30 and then plays a safety up to baulk with two minutes to go.

JONES 2-8 CARTY

Jones jumps all over a miscue from Carty to just about squeeze a cut on a red to bottom right into the pocket. He looks relieved and then turns to see a second red race to the middle right.
But it suddenly turns pear-shaped as a miss-hit on a long red sees the yellow hit the black, which then flies into the bottom right bag.
That’s a massive mistake and Carty races to assess what looks like a mouthwatering opportunity for him.

JONES 0-1 CARTY

Ash Carty and Jak Jones are steely-faced and the crowd respond with: ‘If you smile, you’re in trouble, smile you’re in trouble!’
Carty responds with a scorching long red to bottom left to earn a roar of approval but then teases the supporters by faking a pot on the yellow and playing a safety.

Result – WILSON 29-30 BROWN

Brown gets a slither of luck with a long red that clips another and drops in the left corner bag.
The lay of the table is pretty appetising too and with time ticking down he eats into that lead.
With 15 seconds to go he ties it at 29-29… and then cuts a red to bottom left to win it in fabulous last-ditch fashion. That’s a real old smash and grab!

WILSON 29-1 BROWN

It’s a safety masterclass early on and the crowd have a chuckle, chanting ‘we want our money back!’
Brown briefly breaks the impasse, but it’s Wilson who makes the first meaningful run, nicking in a red-blue and red-black combo.
A fine cut on a red to the bottom left is miles off, however, and it turns a tad scrappy with both players missing chances.

WILSON 1-0 BROWN

Wilson produces the finest of cuts on a red close to bottom right but ends up in a real mess with the cue ball. He has a little chuckle to himself and manages to beat the clock with the help of the rest, to nick the black and retreat to baulk.

Result – YOUNG 59-31 GRACE

It’s the Scot that prevails as Grace runs out of time to mount a late rescue act. He was playing catch-up throughout and never really looked like pulling it off.
Next up, it's Gary Wilson v Jordan Brown.

YOUNG 47-31 GRACE

Young seizes the initiative but a missed cut on a red to the bottom left with three remaining means it’s still on for Grace…
He nicks in a red but a pink to bottom right refuses to go down and that will be that with less than a minute to go.

YOUNG 35-30 GRACE

There’s a gasp from the crowd as Young comes up shy with a run of eight and despite a tricky start, Grace is back in this match.
A superb red down the right rail earns him a ‘good shot!’ shout from the crowd, but he can’t find the angle to cannon into the pack off a pot on the black.
It’s break over and very tight as we move beyond the three-minute mark.

YOUNG 27-8 GRACE

It’s not so ‘Amazing’ Grace as he hits the wrong red on the break-off and leaves a red to middle left for Young to polish off.
A blue to the same pocket follows as the Scot tallies up a decent haul of 27 before a surprise miss on the red has Grace jumping out of his seat.
However, David can only notch up a red and black before another red clips the near jaw as we edge towards the half-way mark.

Result - ASTLEY 3-30 SARKIS

Well, that’s a rocket and the best shot of the match by some distance. Sarkis slams a long red to the bottom left and with less than a minute to go, a break of 14 leaves Astley staring down the barrel….
And that is that! The Brazilian prevails in what is definitely the most scrappy match of the night so far.
Next up, Dean Young v David Grace.

ASTLEY 2-16 SARKIS

It’s all coming up trumps for the Samba Boy!
Another fluke is followed by Astley going in-off in the yellow pocket, but Sarkis can’t pull clear despite a nice spread on the table.

ASTLEY 2-4 SARKIS

Right back at ‘ya. Sarkis raises his finger to acknowledge his own fluke on a red but his pot in the green doesn’t pay off positionally.
Astley follows suit, blowing a routine pink to leave us with a ‘low-scoring thriller’ as per Eurosport Comms!

ASTLEY 1-0 SARKIS

John clips in the opening red via the fluke but it’s pretty scrappy from there with some astute safety restricting the chances in the first four minutes.

Coming up shortly...

It's John Astley versus Victor Sarkis.

Result – EVANS 28-92 LILLEY

Lilley can’t quite summon the century as he ends on 92 as the blue fails to flash into the yellow bag.
Evans decides to have a go anyway, knocking in the final red and clearing up to the black - but it's Lilley's day and he's the one to progress.

EVANS 0-85 LILLEY

Reanne takes on a long red to the right corner but it nicks the far jaw and stays out.
Lilley’s eyes light up as she’s left a few stray reds around the black and he duly mops them up before arrowing a long-range red up to the green pocket.
He lands nicely back on the black for a pot to the bottom right before zapping a red to middle left.
It’s looking bleak for Evans and she doesn’t get the luck she was hoping for when Lilley cannons into the pack to split it and land on the blue to middle left.
It’s a very smooth break from David as he eases beyond the half century. Not even the announcement of the 10-second rule in mid-cue action can deter him.
A blue up to the yellow pocket seals the frame and it’s all over as he continues with a lap of honour with four minutes still to go.

Here comes Reanne!

David Lilley takes on Eurosport expert and 12-time Women's World Champion Reanne Evans.

Result – PENG 63-10 MERTENS

Scratch that. Mertens can’t find the angle to sink a red with the required screw back for position and Peng saunters up to the plate to leave the Belgian with a sinking feeling.
Peng bows to the pressure of the crowd as they scream for him to take on a long yellow, and although he fails to earn the roar he was hoping for with a pot, it does lead to a handshake from Mertens with just over 20 seconds left.

PENG 41-10 MERTENS

Mertens barely makes any inroads on the board before Peng grins cheekily when a miss on a red with the rest somehow flukes in. He can’t quite ease out of sight though and Mertens has a glimmer with two minutes to go.

PENG 37-0 MERTENS

Peng’s disappointing break-off goes unpunished as Mertens blows a red to bottom left from mid-range.
The Chinese lays a couple of safety traps and Mertens fouls on the second and leaves the door open for Peng to gobble up a red to the left corner.
The pack is still fairly intact but he feasts upon a raft of red-black combos before slumping on to his cue when he can’t quite tease a black to bottom left that looked pretty make-able.

Next on the menu….

Peng Yisong v Ben Mertens.

Result - HE 9-47 MIAH

The crowd continue to shout for a pot on the yellow and Miah wags his finger, playing up to their jibes with a broad grin.
He can enjoy the last few seconds as He is nowhere near – and that’s it! Miah marches on.

HE 8-46 MIAH

Both players fluff their lines during a spell of safety, but it’s Miah who takes charge and this time there will be no coming back for He with a minute to go.

HE 8-34 MIAH

There’s some bizarre high-pitched singing from the crowd, but Hammah must have his ear plugs in as he is completely unfazed.
A shout of ‘bogey’ seems out of place in this arena, but Miah does play a smart snooker to try and protect his lead with four minutes to go.

HE 8-16 MIAH

A red down to middle left from baulk wriggles in for He and he guides a slow-burner of a black to the same pocket.
The crowd love that, but not his next shot as the red refuses to go down. The audience really are quite merciless and you need thick skin out there!

HE 0-16 MIAH

He is unlucky with a red to bottom right that ends up in baulk. Miah steps up and sinks it to the yellow pocket.
The crowd are very distracted with lots of snickering but Hammah remains unfazed as he rolls in a couple of red-blue combos to make early strides.
He takes on a double to left middle but can’t bypass the near jaw and a decent run ends on 16.

Next up...

It's He Guoqiang v Hammah Miah.

Result - WILLIAMS 60-51 JAIN

With two reds left, Jain slams down a long red to bottom right and lands plum on the black. The chase is on now as he clatters down the final red to middle left.
He attempts a slight cut on a yellow to the green pocket but it won’t go down. Williams clips it in and that will be that!

WILLIAMS 58-37 JAIN

Both players go close but it’s Robbie who finally makes an impact when he follows up a routine red with a neat cut on the black to the right corner.
There’s still over five minutes here and the Englishman starts to eat into his opponent’s lead.
He’s unlucky with some awkward cueing after splitting the pack, but makes steady use of the rest to hit the front by clearing up the loose reds and passing the half century mark.
The clock ticks under three minutes and Williams suddenly loses concentration with a miss on a cut that sees a red to bottom left refuse the invitation to go down.

WILLIAMS 0-37 JAIN

It’s a slow start to this one but Jain cuts a red to middle right from baulk to finally opening the scoring.
There’s boos from the crowd as he turns down a blockbuster attempt on a yellow, but his choice works out well and a slow-paced pink to middle right earns him a few ‘oohs’ of appreciation.
A block to the right corner follows and makes light work of a few red-black combos to leave the crowd calling for a century. However, he immediately comes up shy with a missed red to middle left.

Next up - Himanshu Jain v Robbie Williams

Let battle commence!

Result - UN-NOOH 41-26 LIU

A stonking long red gives Un-Nooh the impetus and a clever snooker on the black forces the foul. Liu looks forlorn but a miss with the rest across the bottom gives him a slither of a chance – but he blows it.

UN-NOOH 29-26 LIU

Liu shows him how to do it with a sublime pot with the rest down that right rail and a tidy blue keeps him in the hunt.
A miss on a red sees him cough up the initiative as we head into the final two minutes.

UN-NOOH 29-20 LIU

Un-Nooh has the speed to adapt quickly and corks home a long red before slotting the pink to bottom left to turn the tables.
It’s his to lose as a blue to middle left rolls down but he can’t guide in a red via the rest and Liu has some hope again.

UN-NOOH 10-20 LIU

A couple of misses from both players on the pink leads to a shout of ‘Boring’ from the buoyant crowd.
Un-Nooh knocks in a red but it’s Liu who moves 10 ahead as the 10-second shot clock comes into operation.

UN-NOOH 9-7 LIU

Liu nicks a red to the corner right and teases a blue to the middle. Another red to the corner left wriggles in but he blows the pink and it’s still anyone’s here.

UN-NOOH 9-0 LIU

A delicious plant on a red to the bottom left is the perfect way to kick the evening off. There’s a bit of Mexican Wave as he arrows in the yellow before a red and blue follow to put Un-Nooh in control.
However, a miss on a routine red to bottom right opens the door for Liu.

Here we go!

First up, The Speed King Thepchaiya Un-Nooh locks horns with Liu Hongyu.

ICYMI: TAKE A BOW SHAUN MURPHY

Shaun Murphy created history in the Snooker Shoot-Out when he produced a magical 147 in a first-round victory over Hungarian teenager Bulcsu Revesz.
Here's our report with quotes.

A quick reminder

There are a number of rules to this snooker frenzy that you can read here, but for the basics:
  • Each frame lasts a maximum of 10 minutes
  • Shot clock stops players wasting time
  • First five minutes of frame = 15 seconds per shot
  • Second five minutes of frame = 10 seconds per shot

Good evening!

Hello and welcome back to more 2023 Snooker Shoot Out madness! We are under way from 18.45 GMT and it's a fast pace all of the way.

---------------------------------

That's us done for the afternoon

Thanks for your company - join us again this evening at 6.30pm GMT.

Shaun is buzzing!

"On the blue, someone shouts 'he's bottling it!'" His voice is hoarse, he can't believe what he's seen and done! He says that if you get a chance, the pros know when you're jibbing it, so he had to have a go, and really, he was never in trouble. Mark Allen's 142 was the previous record and those two are good mates, watching Man United together with a few jars. "The fans here have seen something special, it was a pleasure to play for them." That might be the most Shaun thing Shaun has ever said. Tremendous.

Shaun Murphy makes a 147 and beats Bulcsu Revesz!

There are maxis, and there are maxis. I'm so pleased it's Shaun too, no one will have enjoyed the honour of being first more than him. Well bloody done, my man.

Murphy 134-0 Revezs

The only man to make a 147, hit a hole in one and a nine-dart finish is about to become the only man to make a 147 in the Shoot Out!

Murphy 120-0 Revezs

Five to go and Shaun has a cut-back red up to the yellow ... and he screws back for the black! Lovely stuff, and he holds off the black for the red! It's not easy either, but gently oh so gently, he slides it left-corner, and it's going to be black then colours off their spots for a quite ludicrous achievement!

Murphy 88-0 Revezs

This is why they saved him till last. Frame-ball goes down - Bulcsu has come over from Hungary to play one shot - "anyone getting nervous" shouts a wag. The Magician enjoys it, but he's focused.

Murphy 64-0 Revezs

Shaun eschews a pink - he wants this - then breaks the pack and the split isn't ideal but he's on one. Down it goes, then a black, and we've 6.36 to go. COME ON SHAUN!

Murphy 32-0 Revezs

Oh man! Bulcsu leaves Shaun an easy starter off the break, and here we are four red-black in, balls available. He would love love love to do this!

Up next: Shaun Murphy v Bulcsu Revesz

Our last match this afternoon; the Magician will like that.

Mark Joyce beats Rebecca Kenna!

He should've finished it sooner, but the push-shot didn't cost him in the end.

Joyce 37-6 Kenna

Rebecca misses to right-middle and this is over now. She's not had the run of the balls - had that red stayed out, who knows, because she played a gorgeous shot - but Mark has played well enough.

Joyce 30-6 Kenna

With two to go, Mark is knocking balls safe.

Joyce 30-6 Kenna

Mark skews a black to left corner but Rebecca can't take advantage, then Mark strikes a nice starter ... only to push-shot the blue! Rebecca gets ball-in-hand, but there aren't many reds available. But look at that! She plays a lovely blue, coming up the table and splitting the pack beautifully ... only for a red to sneak into right corner! That is so unlucky; this game. All the more so as Mark is now at the table potting balls.

Joyce 4-0 Kenna

Rebecca misses to left corner and then catches a safety thick - after Mark makes a cushion, just - leaving a chance.

Up next: Mark Joyce v Rebecca Kenna

Sanderson Lam beats Haydon Pinhey!

That's a good win for Sanderson, oh, and back to the Lincolnshire Sausage, the announcer made it up specially for the occasion. I guess Lincolnshire is where Hallworth is from, and it's famous for its sausages; he enjoyed it, he told Eurosport after the win.

Lam 62-30 Pinhey

Sanderson lands another red, then a blue, then the last red. He adds the brown and Haydon now needs snookers.

Lam 48-30 Pinhey

Ich, Haydon overcuts to left corner and Sanderson gets back at it. Nothing is safe ... but he misses to middle again, and this is still up for grabs, 2.30 to go.

Lam 17-30 Pinhey

Gosh, Sanderson misses a much easier one to left-middle than the one he drained though he doesn't leave anything, it's Haydon in next. This is a really nice opportunity, and we've 5.36 to go.

Lam 8-6 Pinhey

Sanderson slides a lovely oblique starter into left-middle, but soon runs out of position and Haydon opens the pack ... fluking a red. He can't make much of it though, quickly allowing Sanderson back in. The balls are pretty nicely spread...

Up next: Sanderson Lam v Haydon Pinhey

Hallworth 48-14 Jones

Jones runs out of position and the race is run. A win for Hallworth, AKA The Lincolnshire Sausage. Yep, me neither.

Hallworth 47-9 Jones

Jones knocks in a long red but time is against him now with under 90 seconds remaining.

Hallworth 24-0 Jones

Eurosport comms box favourite Steven Hallworth has Fergal O’Brien talking about him right now and has made a good start with a 23-point lead over Jamie Jones with five minutes remaining.

Up next: Steven Hallworth v Jamie Jones

Dylan Emery beats Wu Yize!

Wu made a fine stab at getting back into it late on but when he went in off, the writing was on the wall and Emery took his victory.

Wu 4-42 Emery

Just two minutes left now and this one looks all but over as the pair engage in a safety battle.

Wu 4-41 Emery

But no, a wonderful yellow to the top right gets him out of trouble, and this is looking like a match-winning contribution with just over four minutes left.

Wu 4-21 Yize

A good start from Wales' Emery...but is that end of break?

Up next: Dylan Emery v Wu Yize

Iulian Leclerc beats Andrew Higginson!

That's one of the most impressive performances we've seen so far.

Leclercq 67-0 Higginson

Iulian misses frame-ball but it's not going to matter.

Leclercq 60-0 Higginson

We can sort of see his underwear as he stretches over the table - mauvey - and he's going a fine job swaggering about potting balls. he's got a lot of talent, and plenty of confidence too.

Leclercq 13-0 Higginson

Iulian made his name making the final of this last term, and he gets away to the middle after forcing Andrew to take on a brute, bins loose balls, then opens the pack secure in the knowledge he's a ball over the yellow bag if he needs it. This is good stuff, and he's already a big favourite for the match.

Up next: Andrew Higginson v Julien Leclercq

Jimmy Robertson beats James Cahill!

Jimmy is another you suspect has the game to do well at this, but the truth remains that nobody knows anything.

Robertson 24-2 Cahill

Oh dear. James drains a red but misses a pink sent long to left corner - and by a way. He leaves a chance, and this is now officially done.

Robertson 24-1 Cahill

He cannot. 1.46 to go.

Robertson 24-1 Cahill

James manages a red and no more, then Jimmy strokes a lovely starter to right corner and extends his lead, but with 4.13 to go, we're back playing safety ... then Jimmy gets in again. He's not home by any stretch, but James needs to get moving.

Robertson 14-0 Cahill

Almost immediately, James fouls, so Jimmy gets himself in and releases the black. It winds up going on the green spot, though, so and when he goes down the table, he sticks the white in between the actual green and the bottom rail; James' escape is excellent.

Up next: Jimmy Robertson v James Cahill

Ryan Day beats Anton Kazakov!

A quiet match, but Ryan is a threat here.

Day 24-5 Kazakov

Ryan runs out of position and plays safe off the blue; oh and have a look! Anton nails a glorious long starter and, with 2.23 to go, a really good chance of stealing this ... except he jawses a green, and that means big trouble. Ryan nails a red with the rest, cleans up the green, and with 1.47 to go, there are enough easy balls to consume enough of the time that's left to see him hame.

Day 18-4 Kazakov

Halfway through and still little, but as I type, Ryan gets in with the sweetest of reds, and the balls are set for a decent contribution.

Day 1-4 Kazakov

Ryan won this pot in 20-21, but it's Anton, the Ukrainian world junior champ the year before last, in first with a fine starter. He can't make anything of it, though, and, with 6.55 to go, we're playing safety.

Up next: Ryan Day v Anton Kazakov

Zhang Anda beats Muhammad Asif!

When you're in the kind of form Zhang's in, the format barely matters.

Zhang 57-50 Asif

Yup, Zhang takes these as nicely as you expect and, with 1.39 to go, he slides a tricky final red along the top rail into left corner and sends the yellow long into the same bag ... then after playing safe, fouls, and Muhammad has 15s to pot yellow, green, brown and blie...

Zhang 22-41 Asif

Muhammad plays a red as a shot to nothing, misses, and Zhang opens the pack, meaning his opponent doesn't have time to come up with a suitable safety shot, rushing an effort that leaves a chance. With 3.44 to go, Zhang now looks favourite.

Zhang 6-25 Asif

Zhang's been one of the players of the season and he's quickly in, but then misses to left corner and Muhammad gets to it. He looks nice and relaxed, playing naturally and bumping the pack to liberate some reds.

Up next: Muhammad Asif v Zhang Anda

Oliver Lines beats Ma Hailong!

A good performance from Oli, but Ma showed enough to make me think he's a future in dis ting.

Lines 46-22 Ma

Ma goes at a long one but can only leave the ball in the jaws, and Oli is going to finish this from here.

Lines 22-22 Ma

But he can't and, with 4.24 to go, we're level.

Lines 7-21 Ma

Whoops. Ma misses a black to right corner for no good reason and, with 7.21 to go, has plenty of time to build a lead.

Lines 0-4 Ma

Oh dear. Oli goes in-off and leaves the 20-year-old Ma a very presentable opportunity.

Si Jiahui beats Liam Highfield

Liam started nicely, but once Si got in, his class took over.

Si 61-37 Highfield

Si is iust a brilliant snooker player, and he does what he always tries to do: pot balls. There's a red in the middle of black cush, so that might stymie the clear-up - and with 3.11 to go, Liam has time to catch up. He misses his first go at developing it, then stuns it up the table; 2.15 to go.

Si 16-34 Highfield

Liam misses a cannon and goes in-off then, with six remaining, Si digs into the pack and this is a decent opportunity.

Si 0-34 Highfield

Liam, who looks like he play bass in mid-90s indy band, is in quickly, while Fergal notes he's been suffering with Crohns, which has affected his ability to practise and play. But hopefully he's over the worst now, which is great news.

Stan Moody beats Rory McLeod

Yeah, Stan has it. He's a proper showman, noising up the crowd pos-victory, and he's a great chance of becoming something serious.

Moody 43-8 McLeod

Stan gets in again and he's good at this. He builds his lead and, with a minute left, this is nearly over! 17!

Moody 29-7 McLeod

Stan flukes a red then, playing safe, sends the black in-off a red - helpful - but a few shots later a poor effort allows Raory a chance ... on which he can't capitalise. 2.25 to go.

Moody 6-0 McLeod

Stan is 17, the world junior champion, and a serious prospect - he first came to our attention in this competition a couple of years ago. Mentally, he's right there, unashamed in his desire to win more than Ronnie; he knows exactly how good he is. But though he's in first, he can only manage six, and as they tap about near the top rail, a wag in the crowd hollers for a re-rack.

Tian Pengfei beats Alex Taubman!

An excellent performance from Tian.

Tian 55-35 Taubman

Alex gets in and closes the gap, but then overcuts a red to left corner - by a way - and with 46s to go, he misses a red to right-middle, and that is him done, I'd guess.

Tian 55-21 Taubman

Tian crafts a decent chance for himself, building a sold lead with just over three minutes remaining. But he misses a red to the green with the rest, and Alex needs to make something happen. 2.32 to go.

Tian 29-20 Taubman

Alex runs out of position so plays safe, but a kiss on the brown means Tian is closer than planned to long red, and he sends it down nicely. 5.21 to go.

Tian 21-5 Taubman

It's Tian in first, but then flukes a red ... and goes in-off! This game! Chance for Alex, ball-in-hand.

Page 54-9 Crowley

Yup, Jackson extends his lead far enough to secure the win, and he's taking all the time he wants now - and just over a minute left, he's at the table.

Page 29-9 Crowley

Jackson misses and Leone gets in and out then, when both players miss balls they shouldn't, Leone has a chance to close the gap ... which he can't take, missing a red to middle by miles, flicking the pink en route, and that is going to cost him.

Page 21-0 Crowley

Jackson is Mark J's prodigy and a very useful player - he pots beautifully, it's just a matter of putting everything together - and he's in first here, 7.55 to go.

Jack Borwick beats Adam Duffy!

Jack has a wildcard to next week's Scottish Open, and I'm already looking forward to watching him over a longer match.

Duffy 15-29 Borwick

Now then. With 30s to go, Adam gets in, but the black goes safe and he just doesn't have time to close the gap.

Duffy 1-29 Borwick

Jack runs out of position but then, with the clock ticking down towards two minutes, Adam liberates black but leaves a red, and that might settle things. Jack looks a calm, well-organised player, and he plays a good safety with his opponent desperately needing to force the issue.

Duffy 1-14 Borwick

Adam gets in "He's gonna win 1-0" sing the crowd - but then he goes in-off and Jack, just 16, has a chance to accumulate. Just under five to go.

Duffy 0-0 Borwick

Three-and-a-half minutes, not a ball potted. The crowd treat this respectfully. No they don't.

Jamie O'Neill beats Riley Powell!

A snooker player called Riley, there's nominative determinism if ever there was any. But Jamie gets down form the roof to dominate the table, and what a story that is!

O'Neill 60-5 Powell

Now then. With bang-on five to go, Jamie misses a red to right-middle and Riley, just 14 and a p
actise partner of Mark J Williams, has a chance. But he misses to left corner with the rest, and that might be enough to secure Jamie's passage. 3.15 to go.

O'Neill 40-0 Powell

Jamie eas "on the roof" yesterday - he's a roofer - then got the call to replace the unwell Hossein Vafaei. He's not picked up a cue since May but said before the match that it felt good in his hand, and boy if he showing that here.

And off we go!

Hello again!

Eyes down for more wild snooker!

Welcome to Thursday's action

The most fast paced and frantic event on the snooker calendar continues with plenty more drama expected in today's action.
The Shoot Out sees every match lasting a maximum of 10 minutes, with a shot clock of 15 seconds for the first five minutes and just 10 seconds for the last five.
Mark Allen booked his place in the last 64 of the 2023 Snooker Shoot Out with a first-round victory over Ben Woollaston in Swansea on Wednesday.
The Northern Irishman kicked off the evening session on day one against Woollaston and had to come from behind to advance.
“It’s just chaos every year, no matter how many times you keep coming back here it just doesn’t get any easier,” Allen said.
“You feel like you’ve lost, you feel like you’ve won, and you just never know where you stand.”
The Northern Irishman added: “That’s part and parcel of the competition. It is chaotic, it is manic, it does weird things with your brain, but that’s why we all keep coming back.
“It’s a complete lottery but it is a lot of fun and you have to treat it for what it is.”
