Snooker news - Shaun Murphy outclasses Ding Junhui to reach Champion of Champions semi-finals

Shaun Murphy produced a superb performance on the opening day of the Champion of Champions tournament to reach the semi-finals.
An even start between Murphy and quarter-final opponent Ding Junhui saw the Englishman's two-frame lead soon overhauled as the Chinese start racked up three of his own.
Neither player looked completely at their best in the opening stages of the best-of-11-frame encounter, but Murphy turned on the style in frame six with a classy break of 118... and the 36-year-old didn't look back. Breaks of 88, 110 and 65 saw Murphy stroll through to the semis.
The tournament format sees only four players feature on each day, with the elite pool of stars split into four groups. Murphy's 4-2 win over Robertson and Ding Junhui's victory over Michael Georgiou set up the quarter-final later in the day.
Tuesday's action sees John Higgins face Ryan Day and Ronnie O'Sullivan play Stuart Bingham, with the winners to compete for a last-four berth.
Monday's results
Group Semi-Finals (best of seven)
Shaun Murphy 4-2 Jimmy Robertson
Ding Junhui 4-2 Michael Georgiou
Group Final (best of 11)
Shaun Murphy 6-3 Ding Junhui
