Barry Pinches was beaten by China's Liu Song in World Open qualifying just five days after winning the Players' Tour Championship.
The world number 57 had overcome Ronnie O'Sullivan to win the knockout event on Tuesday, but his form deserted him as he was humbled 3-1 in the second qualifying round.
Liu, who reached the Grand Prix quarter-finals after qualifying courtesy of John Higgins's suspension, finished off his first-round match in the morning before turning his attention to Pinches.
He compiled a 91 break on his way to a victory that sets up a third round match against Michael Holt, with the winner reaching the tournament proper in Glasgow.
Other winners included Jimmy White, who beat Michael Judge 3-0, and Bjorn Haneveer who upset Joe Swail 3-2.
Female players Wendy Jans and Anita Rizzuti both lost in the first qualifying round.
The second qualifying round continues on Monday.
