Jack Lisowski beats John Higgins to earn first Masters victory and set up Hossein Vafaei quarter-final

Jack Lisowski beat John Higgins to reach the quarter-finals of The Masters. Lisowski made one century break and three half-century breaks in victory over the two-time champion. Higgins' standout moment of the match was a tournament-high 142 break in the third frame. Lisowski next faces Hossein Vafaei, while Ronnie O'Sullivan also reached the last eight at Alexandra Palace.
Jack Lisowski secured his first win at The Masters at the fourth attempt as he beat two-time champion John Higgins 6-3.
Lisowski always led after winning the first two frames and finished with a break of 93.
Higgins made a tournament-high 142 in the third frame but didn’t otherwise score heavily.
Lisowski will face Hossein Vafaei in the quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace.
A scrappy first frame saw both players miss pots before Lisowski took it 68-40.
Higgins didn’t tidy up his game in the second frame and fell further behind after a break of 68 from Lisowski.
Higgins cut the deficit with the highest break of the tournament so far, an impressive 142.
But an error from Higgins in the fourth frame allowed Lisowski to the table and he expertly cleaned up with a break of 88.
Higgins stayed in touch after the interval as he pounced on an overcut red from his opponent with a frame-winning break of 79.
Higgins passed up chances to take control of the sixth frame, missing both a pink and a red to the middle. Lisowski eventually made him pay with a break of 100 to move 4-2 ahead.
Higgins moved 42-0 ahead in the seventh frame before running out of position.
He had a great chance to win the frame as he got back to the table and extended his lead to 55-0. However, he missed a routine red to the middle and was punished as Lisowski moved 5-2 up.
Higgins shook off the miss as he rattled in a long red to start the next frame.
He was on for a 147 but missed a tricky black to the corner at 65-0 ahead. Lisowski didn’t take the chance to win the match and Higgins returned to close to two behind.
But Lisowski made sure of the win at the next opportunity, closing out with a 93 break.
