Ronnie O’Sullivan names three ‘massive influences’ on his snooker: ‘A side of the game I never knew existed’

Ronnie O’Sullivan has told Eurosport's Rachel Casey that Frank Adamson, Ray Reardon and Steve Peters were the three biggest influences on his game. The seven-time Masters champion – who has won a record 39 ranking titles – said Adamson had remodelled his cue action, Reardon had introduced him to aspects of the sport he did not know existed, while Peters had helped him stop sabotaging himself.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has named the three people who have had the biggest influence on his game.

The seven-time world champion told Eurosport's Rachel Casey ahead of his Masters quarter-final against Mark Williams at Alexandra Palace that Frank Adamson, Ray Reardon and Steve Peters had the biggest influences on his game.

The 47-year-old O’Sullivan – who has won a record 39 ranking titles – told Casey that Adamson had remodelled his cue action, Reardon had introduced him to aspects of the sport he did not know existed, while Peters had helped him stop sabotaging himself.

“There are three people, with all three having contributed massively to my game,” began O’Sullivan.

“Frank Adamson, who died last week aged 93, changed my cue action - in 2000, he got me a technique that was capable of winning the World Championship.

“Ray Reardon brought a side of the game that I never knew existed and I learned it, and I kind of now appreciate it and use it a lot when I have to.

“And obviously Steve Peters helped me with not quitting, basically. I didn't know I was quitting - [actually] not even quitting [it was] more about sabotaging [myself].

"I was really good at sabotaging and didn't know I was actually doing it. And so now I don't do that really, so it just makes me a tougher match player.

“So all three have been massive to me!”

O’Sullivan held a 33-8 head-to-head record against Williams ahead of their quarter-final. The Rocket is aiming for an eighth Masters title.
