The rising star of snooker was in real trouble, slipping 3-1 down, but despite the Whirlwind having chances to wrap up victory, Trump reeled off three frames in a row to book his place in the fourth round.
The man who beat Trump in the World Championship final earlier in the year, John Higgins, had a smoother passage to the fourth round, culminating in a comfortable 4-1 victory over the 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty.
And Matthew Stevens of Wales saw off Mark Davis 4-2 to join the likes of Neil Robertson and Ronnie O'Sullivan, who both progressed on Friday, in the last 16.
Nigel Bond hit the best break of the day, a superb 137 in his second round clash against Irishman Fergal O'Brien - but the century came in a 4-3 defeat, with O'Brien himself then losing 4-1 to Tom Ford in the following round.
The last 16, quarters, semis and final all take place on Sunday.
Each player earns 1,000 euros for reaching the last 16 of the event, with a prize of 10,000 euros is at stake.
