Stuart Bingham continued his dream run at the Crucible as he took a 5-3 lead over Judd Trump after the opening session of their World Championship semi-final.
Trump was arguably the form player of the tournament so far, but Bingham was clearly full of confidence having knocked out Ronnie O'Sullivan on Wednesday night.
The former journeyman who has turned his career around since his maiden win four years ago looked by far the more focused of the two, matching the young Bristolian's pot success rate in his first ever match in the one-table set-up that famously changes the Crucible's atmosphere at the last-four stage.
Trump led 1-0 and could have made it two, but he ran out of position after an opening contribution of 64 and allowed Bingham to make a 65 clearance to steal the frame.
The younger man claimed a hard-fought third frame, but thereafter Bingham settle in and looked the more comfortable, making breaks of 89, 74 and 76 as he won three of the next four frames.
Trump also made one good break, a 75 to claim the penultimate frame of the session, but while he potted well lapses at key moments proved important. He will need to up his game if he is to make the final again, as he did in 2011.
Semi-finals
