Ronnie O'Sullivan displays disgust at bad luck over miss at World Snooker Championship - 'Urgh! God! Kick!'

Ronnie O'Sullivan stormed to a crushing and mightily impressive 13-7 victory over Ryan Day in round two of the 2024 World Snooker Championship, but he did not have everything his own way during the contest as it resumed to a conclusion on Monday afternoon. The Rocket was left very frustrated by a nasty kick at a key moment as he attempted to wrap up the victory late on.
For some, kicks in snooker are a thing of the past, but Ronnie O'Sullivan demonstrated that they can still be a very real issue on the biggest stage at the World Snooker Championship on Monday.
O'Sullivan suffered the misfortune of a kick as he was attempting to wrap up victory over Ryan Day in the 19th frame of their second-round match while holding a 12-6 lead.
The 48-year-old had been cueing superbly at the Crucible Theatre but suddenly appeared to scuff a shot on a long red using the rest to the corner pocket.
He immediately knew what had caused the miss, and dropped his head onto the table in disgust at what had unfolded.
"Urgh! God! Kick!" O'Sullivan was heard exclaiming after the miss as the crowd sighed in exasperation on his behalf.
"Definitely a kick!" said Eurosport commentator Neal Foulds in reaction to the moment.
"That is why you heard a little bit of commentary from O'Sullivan himself.
"There was a gasp, and under his breath, he said the word 'kick'."
By way of context, commentator Phil Yates added: "It has been said many times, but we have to reiterate that he still uses the old chalk, not the new 'Taom' chalk where kicks have been massively reduced."
No matter, the setback did not halt O'Sullivan for long as he proceeded to clinch a very fine 13-7 victory as he secured his place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious event.
The Rocket is aiming to clinch an outright record eighth World Championship title in this year's edition of the Sheffield showcase to pull away from fellow legend Stephen Hendry's tally of seven.
O'Sullivan will face either Jack Lisowski or Stuart Bingham in the last eight.
