TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 5-2 O’CONNOR
World No.12 Wilson will lead overnight following a break of 78 with just one frame to play this evening.

LISOWSKI 3-5 BINGHAM

Bingham chalks up a starter for 16 but then turns down a red along the bottom rail and plays safe.
It turns out to be the wrong decision as Lisowski clips a beauty of a long red to the green pocket and then clears up to the final red to reduce the arrears heading into the overnight break.

Stuart Bingham makes 'nifty' double against Lisowski

LISOWSKI 2-5 BINGHAM (60-0)

There’s a grimace from Bingham as his safety in the yellow part of baulk leaves a gap for Jack to spy a long red to the right corner.
It is a case of ‘Jack-Pot’ for the World No.17 too as he doesn’t consider position but lands perfectly on the black off its spot. There’s another big chance for him to end the session on a positive note here and he finally gets his Mojo back with some sharp shooting, but he comes unstuck when he miscues a red to the left corner via the rest. Still a smidgen of hope for Bingham to make it six on the spin!

TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 4-2 O’CONNOR

LISOWSKI 2-5 BINGHAM (9-0)

Here’s a half chance for Jack.
Bingham’s blast on a long red doesn’t come off and he nudges another free from the pack to tee up his opponent to find the right corner bag.
He’s unfortunate with a cannon into the pack as a red darts south to block his intended path to the black. Break over and he’ll be feeling like it’s all gone against him since he missed that good chance to go three up in Frame 3.

LISOWSKI 2-5 BINGHAM

Lisowski’s safety crumbles again and Bingham gets in to ensure it will be a five-frame winning streak.
The 2015 champion quickly passes frame ball with reds to spare and Jack can only watch on with a look of dismay etched upon his face.
Ball Run doesn't make him suffer too long as he misses a pink, but a tidy 41 is more than enough.

LISOWSKI 2-4 BINGHAM (3-48)

A rocket of a red down to the left pocket earns a deserved ripple of applause and the split of the pack means Bingham is again the one to take charge with a flurry of red-black combos.
It’s a visit that has more than a bit of frame-winning potential but he runs shy of position and needs a blockbuster red to the yellow pocket to keep it going. He can’t find the bag and falls short of the half century.

LISOWSKI 2-4 BINGHAM (3-0)

Lisowski sizes up a red at the top of a split pack and arrows it with unerring accuracy to the corner right pocket. It isn’t the lift off he was hoping for though as it all goes wrong following a pot on the yellow.
The hot-streak that saw him rampage through the opening two frames seems quite a while ago right now.

TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 4-1 O’CONNOR

LISOWSKI 2-4 BINGHAM

Bingham produces a very tasty double on a red to middle but it’s a bullet yellow to its home pocket that allows him to cannon the cue ball back down to completely split the remainder of the pack that really catches the eye.
He stays focused from there, just about convincing a red from left to right to drop in the middle pocket and it’s a stroll from there as an 89 clearance makes it four frames in a row for the World No.29.

LISOWSKI 2-3 BINGHAM (30-1)

Ouch. Lisowski trust a right-hander on a blue to the green pocket, but he comes unstuck and ends on a run of 30. He'll be gutted by that. There's was a good opportunity to clock up a big break there.
picture

‘Rifled that one in’ - Bingham pots superb red

LISOWSKI 2-3 BINGHAM (0-1)

Bingham bows his head. He knows he’s made a howler there as he follows up a long red with a miss on the black that has the collateral damage of a split on the pack that is SO inviting for Jack-Pot.

LISOWSKI 2-3 BINGHAM

Jack fluffs his safety to leave a sitter of a green for Bingham but he also blows it and leaves it over the right corner pocket for Lisowski to knock it down.
It feels like Jack-Pot is just delaying the inevitable and when Bingham shunts in the brown and then the blue to the green pocket, it’s all over.
The exhibition shot on the pink off three cushions misses the left corner bag, but it’s academic as the 2015 champion hits the front.

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (34-65)

There have been moments of brilliance in this frame but the shifts in momentum also tell a story that it’s been a bit scrappy at times. Bingham has had chances to put it to bed without keeping Jack firmly in his char.
It’s still Ball Run’s to lose here, but he’s been dragged into a safety face-off on the green…

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (32-57)

But no!
Bingham blows the final red along the bottom rail and the twists in this frame continue. Still up for grabs!

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (32-41)

Ball Run clips in Lisowski’s misjudged red and gets into a nice rhythm. A lovely pot on a black to the right corner gives a nudge to a red on the right rail and opens it up for the cut. It’s not routine but very potable, but he adds too much pace and clunks the far jaw. Break over, but Lisowski chucks in a sloppy safety and Stuart will surely take this home from here…

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (32-9)

Jack-Pot makes the first serious moves since the interval and then screws nicely into the pack off a splendid pot on the black to the corner to suggest he could restore his leads at this visit.
But hang on. Scratch that.... He ponders a plant to the left corner but still misjudges it and his run ends abruptly on 31.

TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 3-1 O’CONNOR

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (1-9)

Stuart cuts a tricky red to the left corner but can only chalk up a score of eight before missing a routine black to the same pocket.
Advantage Lisowski then, with the reds beginning to spread nicely for a potentially more than decent run.

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (1-1)

Lisowski almost obliterates a red before it rifles into the right corner. He follows the sublime with the,... well, something not so sublime. A Hollywood attempt on a black up to the yellow pocket is some way wide and hit with ferocious pace which opens the door for Bingham.

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM (0-1)

Stuart stretches into a mid-range red to the right corner but gets a couple of kisses off nearby reds and can’t land where he wants on the black.
The 2015 champion had the momentum heading into the interval, but who will seize the initiative in the coming frames to take an overnight lead?

The shot of the night so far

‘Almost a Judd Trump shot’ - Bingham pots stunning pink during fine break

TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 2-1 O’CONNOR

LISOWSKI 2-2 BINGHAM

Ball Run sinks a red to the right corner bag but can’t quite pull clear as a break of 22 keeps Lisowski in contention.
The difference now, however, is that Jack can’t seem to get a groove on. Once again, it’s Bingham adding to the scoreboard and a red down to middle left tees him up perfectly for a routine black to the opposite corner off its spot.
It hasn’t quite got the swagger of Jack-Pot’s opening frames, but Ball Run knows how to entertain too and he’ll be delighted to pull level heading into the interval after that sublime start from his opponent.
This time he clears up to the final red as a pink via the rest fails to read the script telling it to enter the left corner bag.

LISOWSKI 2-1 BINGHAM (1-20)

Ouch.
Bingham leaves another long red on for Lisowski but he can’t convince the jaws to allow it to disappear into the bag and the roll of the cue ball leaves Stuart in business once more.
picture

‘An underrated implement’ - Lisowski pots ball with swan neck

LISOWSKI 2-1 BINGHAM (1-20)

How did that stay out?
Lisowski arrows a red from the right side of the bottom rail up to the yellow pocket and it looks for all the world like it’s going to drop… but it doesn’t!
Bingham intervenes and jabs it home via the rest before taking care of the black hovering over that right corner pocket.
He works his way to a run of 16 but runs out of options in terms of what he regards as reasonable risks and retreats to baulk.

TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 1-1 O’CONNOR

LISOWSKI 2-1 BINGHAM (1-4)

It was a careless miss from Jack-Pot but Bingham doesn’t make him pay and when the 2015 champion leaves a red down the right flank, Lisowski wastes little time in taking it on.
It’s a corker of a pot but he refuses what looks like an easier one on the black despite it being quite close to the same bag. The safety is his choice and the lay of the table suggests this frame may not be quite as straight-forward in comparison to the previous three.

LISOWSKI 2-1 BINGHAM (0-4)

There’s a unified gasp of surprise from the audience as Lisowski fails to skim a red from baulk and coughs up an early foul.

LISOWSKI 2-1 BINGHAM

Stuart has had to be patient watching some exhibition-type snooker from his opponent, but he looks to take his chance when it comes his way, nailing a beauty of a red all the way up to the green pocket.
Lisowski’s good work in freeing up the reds means the recovery is very much on and Ball Run methodically eats into the lead until a screw back into the pink joined to a red frees the latter but leaves him needing to pull off a long-range green to its home pocket. It’s a pressure shot, but he delivers with aplomb. A slow-paced blue navigates him to the penultimate red to the left corner and sees him assume command of the scoreboard.
Some lovely positional play off the black tees him up behind the final red near the right cushion and he’s able to simply guide it in routine fashion to middle left.
It’s down to the colours from there and a brown to the yellow pocket makes sure he gets off the mark. A Hollywood double on the pink ensures he completes a stunning 90 clearance to reduce the arrears. What a magnificent start we've had to this match. Brilliant from both players!

TABLE 2 LATEST

WILSON 1-0 O’CONNOR

LISOWSKI 2-0 BINGHAM (46-1)

New frame, same story as Jack quickly builds a lead, screwing back off a routine red to land neatly on the black. His confidence is up, he’s in the groove and when he’s playing like this, he’s a sight to behold.
A delightful split of the pack off a clinical black to the left corner suggests it could be another super-fast frame, but he blows a red to the bottom right via the rest to give Ball Run some respite.

LISOWSKI 2-0 BINGHAM

The split reds are easy pickings for Jack-Pot, who then digs out the spider to navigate over the remainder of the pack and stay around the black.
He’s got a nice spread of the reds now but doesn’t get topside of blue and needs to glide up between yellow and brown to come off baulk and land back amongst the action in the bottom half of the table.
He fires a straight pink to the left corner and makes the right calculations for it being re-spotted with just enough room to fizz a red to the opposite bag.
Bingham can only watch on and lament that miss on the black as Lisowski maintains his rapid start to the evening to chalk up another fabulous break of 88 in double-quick time.

LISOWSKI 1-0 BINGHAM (1-0)

Jack’s early safety catches the pink and leaves a mid-range red on that Ball Run drills to the right corner.
He adds extra zip to his attempt on the black off its spot, but he miscues and sees the repercussions of the power when the cue ball opens up the pack for Lisowski.

LISOWSKI 1-0 BINGHAM

Ball-Run Bingham can’t sink a long red and leaves it hovering over the rim of the right corner pocket for Jack-Pot.
Lisowski bids it farewell and despatches it with ease. He looks sharp with his early cueing and threads the eye of the needle to ping a pink to bottom left that was tight to the pack before a tidy split suggests he could be in for a heavy score to open.
The lefty then opts for a righty pot on a red to the bottom left before a thin cut on a black to the same bag just about makes it after a jiggle with both jaws.
It’s ‘lightning Lisowski’ as he glides around the table, gobbling up the stray reds and moving to within sight of frame ball. A lovely pot on the blue to middle right allows him to hold for a red down to the right corner, but he lets out an exasperated sigh as a kick threatens to halt his run. He recovers from that but an attempt to split a mini pack of three goes wrong and the acute angle attempt on one to middle left just misses. There’s no century as he stops on 83 but it’s still an excellent opener from the World No.17.

Time for more snooker

Bingham with the break-off...

H2H

This is the eighth meeting between Bingham and Lisowski with the latter currently edging the match-up 4-3.

We go again!

It's a quick turnaround and we are ready for more action from the evening session at the Crucible.
The boys are at the baulk from 19.00 BST.

That's the afternoon done. Back for more at 6:45pm

On the other table, Jak Jones held his nerve to beat Si Jiahui 13-9.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Crucible and us, with Jack Lisowski and Stuart Bingham the focus this evening. On the other table from 6:45pm, it's Joe O'Connor against Kyren Wilson.

HIGGINS 4-4 ALLEN

That’ll do nicely. Higgins cuts the long, final red to the left corner and the thunderous applause tell you Allen won’t return. All square heading into the overnight session and Higgins will probably be the happier of the two.

HIGGINS 3-4 ALLEN (64-25)

Mark makes inroads into the lead but has to play safe around the final red.
Higgins tries to cut it in from distance but can’t quite find the angle to the green pocket and on we go.

HIGGINS 3-4 ALLEN (64-1)

Higgins comes up short on the finish line. Allen still needs a snooker but he’ll certainly play on. Could there be a twist late in the day here?

TABLE 2 LATEST

SI 9-12 JONES

HIGGINS 3-4 ALLEN (27-1)

There’s a shout of delight when Allen pops away a clinical red but his attempt on a blue to the green pocket is wayward and the pendulum swings Higgins’ way once more.

HIGGINS 3-4 ALLEN (27-0)

Higgins will be eager to avoid an overnight deficit and he opens the final frame of the session with a sumptuous long red to the yellow pocket.
He follows it with a spellbinding blue to the same bag and there’s a suggestion he has got some of his groove on when he slams away a yellow to that corner once again.
The reds are nicely spread at this juncture and while there’s work to be done, he’ll feel it’s there to firmly tip the scales in his favour if he can’t get the job done at this visit.
A blue to middle right sees the cue ball take a nasty nick off the pack - or so it seems. Instead, it lands perfectly for him to slide a red near the right corner to the bag, but disaster isn’t far away.
He’s on a run of 27 when a relatively routine red to middle left catches the near jaw and bounces free.

HIGGINS 3-4 ALLEN

Higgins plays on but when a safety goes wrong, he leaves a red on via kiss to the bottom right. He doesn’t allow Allen to engage, brushing the red away and conceding the frame.

HIGGINS 3-3 ALLEN (0-65)

Higgins closes his eyes and puts his palm to his head as another long attempt goes awry.
It opens the door for Allen again and a succession of red-black combos help him to build a decent lead.
A lovely pot off the black that he engineers delightful side spin off to crash the cue ball into the pack to develop a few more reds keeps him in pole position and leaves the Wizard of Wishaw with a sinking feeling.
There’s a brief discussion regarding the placement of the pink tight to the foot of the pack and it is an important one as a couple of shots later, Allen splits it further with a pot on the colour to the left corner.
He’s close to the right cushion but executes a tidy red to the middle to put himself within a whisker of regaining the lead.
A red to the left corner secures frame ball but he forgoes position making sure and misses a tough cut on a pink to the middle right.
It means Higgins will return searching for snookers with four reds still in play.

HIGGINS 3-3 ALLEN

Allen slots the green to middle right but it’s a tough ask to take on the brown close to the lower right cushion and he doesn’t even bother trying to line it up.
It’s a clever safety but Higgins is fortunate that his recovery off the baulk cushion doesn’t leave the brown as a sitter.
Instead, Allen goes for broke with an attempt to the green pocket but he makes a hash of it and Higgins sinks it to the middle left. The blue follows and that’s the frame. All square!

HIGGINS 2-3 ALLEN (56-42)

There’s a surprise miss apiece before Higgins finds the right angle to steer that final red to the bottom right bag.
The colours aren’t routine, so there’s some hope for Allen, and no sooner is that typed, and Higgins misses the green down the left rail with the rest.
Huge chance for The Pistol to pinch it here…

TABLE 2 LATEST

SI 9-11 JONES - interval

HIGGINS 2-3 ALLEN (48-42)

Mark tickles down a red, then a blue and it’s almost like he’s a rush as sweeps through the remaining reds until he gets to the final one, when an attempt to nudge it off the bottom rail goes awry.
He’s disappointed with himself as he plays safe to baulk with the frame well and truly up for grabs - and yet both players will now feel they should have boxed it off.

HIGGINS 2-3 ALLEN (48-0)

John’s long-game has generally been off so far today, but he gets an early chance from close-in up in baulk and quickly gets down to the black to prey upon the loose reds.
He quickly darts to 35 but a pressure red to middle right briefly threatens the run. He makes it look easy as he smoothly plants it in the bag and with position restored he engineers a split.
Argh, the reds spread to block the black and the pink’s not on either. He has to be bold and nails an absolute beauty of a blue up to the green pocket.
It feels like a decisive pot but he overruns trying to land on the black and it becomes a tough cut up to the colour. He can’t pave the path to the right corner and Allen has a reprieve.

HIGGINS 2-3 ALLEN

Allen blows a routine red to the right corner and there’s a mid-long one to the opposite bag for Higgins if he can rekindle his Mojo.
Sadly for him, he can’t as he doesn’t even come close to clipping the near jaw with a wayward miss.
It opens the door for The Pistol who mops up and nicks a cheeky red along the bottom rail. With the half century break helping him to seal the frame, the heat is off as he takes on the two remaining reds down the left rail.
He slots down the last one with the aid of the rest but can’t notch up a second century as his run ends on 79 with a miss on the brown to the yellow pocket.
picture

A peach’ - Higgins rolls in superb long red

HIGGINS 2-2 ALLEN (0-32)

Higgins leaves a simple red down to middle left for Mark to open the post-interval scoring.
A yellow to its home pocket helps him down towards the pack, but he needs a good recovery with excellent control on the cue ball off the left cushion.
A lovely kiss off a red tight to the black while popping away one to right corner frees up the colour.
There’s then another delightful kiss on to a red at the foot of the cushion off a shot on the black that pings it free and makes it a routine pot.
He looks to be firmly in control but suddenly fluffs a black to the left corner and there’s a lifeline for John that he probably wasn’t expecting.

TABLE 2 LATEST

SI 9-10 JONES

HIGGINS 2-2 ALLEN

Allen steers a red to the bottom left corner and cuts a blue to middle right after a real impasse.
The Pistol’s patience pays off but it’s far from an orthodox table with the black south of its spot and the pink tight to the lower left cushion.
He works hard to whittle down to four reds remaining and a clinical blue that sees him come off three cushions and puts him in prime position to knock in frame ball via the rest to the left corner. It’s a run of 47 and enough to stop Higgins returning as the World No.3 levels heading into the interval.

TABLE 2 LATEST

SI 8-10 JONES

HIGGINS 2-1 ALLEN (0-11)

Allen takes on a long red from left to right up to the green pocket and misses by some distance. He clatters into the pack but despite leaving a red over the right corner pocket, Higgins can’t see it.
Both players work their magic with their safety to somehow avoid leaving that simple red on.
Eventually Allen blinks first, but Higgins takes on a red up to middle right and doesn’t really come close to sinking it.
It paves the way for Mark to swerve into a pot on that red near the right corner, but he’s nowhere near to getting position on colour and ends up tying the cue ball to the bottom rail.

HIGGINS 2-1 ALLEN (0-10)

Allen needs to respond and an early misjudgement has Higgins grimacing and The Pistol is quick to his feet.
A superb three-ball plant to the right corner bag proves to be the highlight of a disappointingly short run of 10 as he soon overruns the cue ball again and has to retreat to baulk.

TABLE 2 LATEST

SI 8-9 JONES

HIGGINS 2-1 ALLEN

Allen misses a red to the corner and John swiftly returns to finish the job off, clearing up the reds with the minimum of fuss, but a miss on the black means Mark doesn’t have to stew through a clearance.

HIGGINS 1-1 ALLEN (73-0)

Higgins fizzes a long red down the right side to the corner pocket and then turns sharply to stick the green in its home pocket. It enables him to bring the cue ball down to nick in the red above the black and free up the colour on its spot.
He uses deep screw to bounce off the right cushion off a red to middle left to land neatly back on the black and despite a cluster of five reds still tight in a mini pack, he coolly takes care of the stray ones to pass the half century mark. A black down to corner right via the rest pretty much secures the frame with Allen needing a couple of snookers.
Higgins splits the pack and retreats to baulk knowing he should be good for a 2-1 lead.

HIGGINS 1-1 ALLEN

Will Mark rue being too cautious there?
He does indeed as a couple of shots later he gets an unfortunate double kiss and leaves that final red on to middle right.
Higgins doesn’t blink, easing his way through the colours to level the match with a clearance up to the black.

HIGGINS 0-1 ALLEN (39-47)

There’s a lengthy safety exchange that ends suddenly when Allen drifts the red up to baulk but catches the brown near to the yellow pocket and leaves it on for Higgins. The four-time champion tries to nick it in by coming off the upper left cushion first, but he can’t bypass the reluctant jaws. It feels like a big miss but Allen turns down the chance to try and cut it in himself and instead plays safe to keep the outcome of this frame in the balance.

HIGGINS 0-1 ALLEN (39-47)

The Pistol clips in the simple red up in baulk and thunders down a blue to the middle. However, he almost snookers himself with the black tied to the final red and again has to place safe, knocking the red up to baulk.

HIGGINS 0-1 ALLEN (39-41)

Allen quickly pops in the red Higgins squandered but more struggles with his pace off a pot on a blue down the right rail leaves him with nothing on.
He’s forced to play safe with two reds remaining, but Higgins gets his angles wrong off a two-cushion escape and fouls.
Allen puts him back in and although the Scot hits a red full-on, he leaves it over the yellow pocket.
Advantage Allen.

HIGGINS 0-1 ALLEN (39-24)

It’s the Wizard of Wishaw’s first big opportunity and a routine red to the left corner is followed by a belter of a positional shot that allows him to tease a pink up to middle right.
There’s a nice steady flow to Higgins as he moves ahead through some sharp work off red-pink-red combinations but after some great control with the rest down the left rail, he takes his eye off a more routine red to the corner bag as he overthinks his next shot on the pink. Break over and a big opening for Mark now.

HIGGINS 0-1 ALLEN (0-24)

Higgins will have been rueing that early miss to the right corner in that opening frame and he’s instantly frowning again here as his weak break-off leaves a red to middle right for Allen to gleefully swat down.
The Pistol has got into a decent rhythm as a result of that century clearance but he’s still working on the roll of that cue ball as he’s still over-running and having to problem solve around the blue.
He ponders a red to the right corner for a moment and his attempt to split the pack comes off. However, an unfortunate kiss means he can’t take on the pink or black and needs to sink the blue to the green pocket. This time he misfires and his run ends prematurely on 24.

HIGGINS 0-1 ALLEN

The Pistol is the first man to get his sighter in line as he drills a tidy red down the right rail and into the bag.
A brown up to the green pocket tees him up for a middle red that leaves him topside of blue. He turns that down and pops away the green to its home pocket but even the slight loss of position is easily shrugged off as the reds are so well scattered now.
The Irishman ticks along towards the 20-mark but almost undoes a solid start with some sloppy judgement that means he has to produce a sublime cut to middle on a tough red. He’s overrunning the cue ball early here but keeps finding solutions although he’s struggling to get down to the pink and blue to score more heavily.
It's not swashbuckling snooker, but he won’t mind as long as he remains at the table. Indeed, a bonus flick off a red to the left corner via the rest helps him settle into some routine pots off black and red and suddenly the finish line moves into sight.
There’s a smattering applause as he navigates frame ball, but with three reds remaining he needs a slight adjustment as his attempt to free a red down the left rail goes awry. Instead he knocks in the green to its home pocket and ends up pulling off a beauty of a positional shot to land on that red on the left and pp it into the corner bag.
It's all about how big the break is here from here and all that early hard work pays dividends as he opens the match with a superb 119 clearance.
Statement made.

HIGGINS 0-0 ALLEN

John sizes up a long red down the right by some distance and the inadvertent cannon into the pack leaves a red on up to the middle.
Allen gives it a wallop and its too heavy as it clunks against the jaw and flies free.
Higgins thinks he can squeeze one to the right corner but it’s a tricky one that pretty much jumps out of the pocket and spins free up the table.
Not the start either player would have wanted, but so far there’s no major damage.

H2H

Allen leads the match-up 13-11 but Higgins has had the better of it in their contests at The Crucible.

Good afternoon

Welcome back for Saturday's middle session of snooker.
Jak Jones resumes leading 9-7 against Chinese starlet Si Jiahui but our focus will be mainly on the opening session between former champion John Higgins and Mark Allen.
The boys are at the baulk from 14.30 BST.

That's us for now

We'll be back with more from the Crucible in around 20 minutes, when the afternoon session gets going. Stay wired in!

edges ahead of Murphy

Phew! That was a draining session, with several long frames that went right to the wire. Shaun nicked two on the black but Stephen stayed ahead of him all day, eventually establishing a 10-6 advantage with that gutsy green to pink clearance at the end. These two will resume tomorrow morning, expect more twists and turns then.

Murphy 6-10 Maguire

He's drained the pink! What a brilliant mini clearance from Stephen. He punches the table in delight, and is giving it plenty when he leaves the arena. That's a crucial dish that gives him a four frame advantage.

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (64-67)

Shaun traps Stephen in a full ball snooker behind the blue, drawing big applause. Stephen not only escapes but sends it safe, and this time the clapping is a decibel louder. These are big moments in the match. Stephen breaks the deadlock with a double on green to right middle, a stunning shot and he's back in control! The brown is tough, thin to the left middle, but he makes it and he's on a long blue. This is on! He drains the blue and it's pink for the frame...
picture

'He does not want this in!' - Murphy accidentally pots white and Maguire takes frame

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (64-55)

Dramarama! Shaun misses a thin contact safety on the green, and leaves a free ball. Stephen bullets in the brown as a free ball with deep screw, but cannons the blue and sends it safe. The situation now is that Shaun needs up to and including the blue, Stephen the pink. What a session, you gotta love it!

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (64-48)

Zoiks! Stephen lands awkward on the green, misses it to left middle and it runs safe. We're not one in this one yet, and Shaun needs green and brown.
picture

'Biggest shot of the match!' - Murphy stays alive with vital clearance

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (64-46)

After a good safety from Stephen, Shaun plays a terrible shot and catches the jaws of the bottom left from his escape. It leaves Stephen straight on a red to left middle, and the dish is on. Can Stephen steel himself and see this home? You can hear a pin drop in the Crucible, with the full auditorium locked in on this one. The reds go, the final one with the rest, and he goes up for the yellow off the pink. He's perfect on it off two cushions, so it's the colours for a devastating steal!

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (64-1)

It's 60 for Shaun as he loses position on the reds and has to play safe. With 75 left out there this is still very much alive. Stephen opens the reds with an attacking safety, but he's left a red as a cut with the rest. Can Shaun make it? No! Everything is now in play though, so if Stephen can get in he'll have the chance to pinch it.

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (56-1)

It's a half-ton for Shaun as he just about lands on the black and glides it into the bottom left. This is a very considered break from him, he knows 9-7 gives him a great chance in the denouement tomorrow morning. He's only a few more pots from taking this out in one hit.

Murphy 6-9 Maguire (18-1)

Stephen gets a lone red in to kick-off the final frame of this batch, but can't add a colour to it. He then gives four away after missing with his attempt to rest the white on the pack off one cushion. It's Shaun that gets the first stab at a break, draining a red narrow into the bottom right and going back up for the blue. It's a decent chance and Shaun starts making hay; this is a big visit to the table.

Murphy 6-9 Maguire

Oh my. Shaun plays a safety but watches in horror as the white drifts into the bottom right, and he's left the frame on. Stephen makes it hard work, leaving the green as a thin cut, but he recovers well to hold his nerve and clear up to the pink. What a huge frame we have up next, the last of the session.

Murphy 6-8 Maguire (39-40)

A key moment here, as Stephen traps Shaun full ball behind the brown. Shaun escapes, but he's left the red on to the bottom left. Stephen plugs it, but is unlucky to send the yellow safe and have no easy colour to go at. A snooker follows, and on we go. It's now down to the colours, as the frame time ticks on to near 30 minutes.

Murphy 6-8 Maguire (39-39)

The first chance goes to Stephen, who sees a long jab at the red to bottom right spit out and go safe. He misses another long-ish go at it a few shots later, and he's left a chance for Shaun; that doesn't go, and Stephen has a third go at the red from range, and again it coughs back out. This is tense, and Murphy misses another cut at the red for good measure. The pink and black are safe but everything else is open, so this red is effectively frame ball.

Murphy 6-8 Maguire (39-39)

Stephen clears up what he can, and just fails to clip the red off the rail. A snooker follows, and we are all square in the frame. Shaun has pinched two on the black in this session, we could be in for another dramatic finish in this frame.

Murphy 6-8 Maguire (39-7)

What a twist here. Shaun drives in the black and goes into the pack, but sends a red drifting into the right middle! That's so unlucky, and Stephen has the chance to get right back in this. There's a red tight to the upper left rail that means this isn't a frame-winning chance, unless Stephen can shift it.

Murphy 6-8 Maguire (24-0)

Shaun creams in a long red to bottom left to get frame 15 going. A green and another red follow, but he's losing position all the time and has to end his break there. Safety ensues, but Shaun resumes control of the frame with another long red and this looks like being a more adhesive chance. A good recovery red long to the yellow pocket takes his break to 19 and counting.

Murphy 6-8 Maguire

We're done. Shaun drains frame ball red and he's on blue, which disappears with a satisfying thunk into the right middle. He can't follow it with another red, but Stephen has seen enough and waves it off. That 66 is Shaun's highest break of the match.

Murphy 5-8 Maguire (44-1)

This is intricate stuff from Shaun, as he takes his break to 40. The black is just about on to the bottom right and he's picking off the reds scattered around it; three reds are glued to the bottom rail, but he won't need them if he keeps draining the open reds with high value colours.

Murphy 5-8 Maguire (12-1)

A long safety exchange gets frame 14 going, in which Shaun gives away four. The stalemate is ended when Stephen bullets in a shot to nothing, and then tucks Shaun in tight behind the brown. This is an edgy exchange; as before the interval, this is the difference between a two frame deficit or a four frame win. Shaun takes control now though as he drains a long red to land on the black, and he's away.

Murphy 5-8 Maguire

We're done, as Shaun leaves the final red on to the green pocket. A quick red-green from Stephen follows, and he leads by three again.

Murphy 5-7 Maguire (28-69)

Stephen makes sure of the blue, but can't cut one of the final two reds to the bottom right and his break ends on 69. Shaun needs two snookers, and takes red-pink before going for said snookers on the final red.

Murphy 5-7 Maguire (21-56)

Stephen is exhibiting a lovely touch here, as he deftly develops three reds below the pink on his way to a half-century. Two reds and two colours will do it, and it's all there for him.

Murphy 5-7 Maguire (21-28)

An attacking safety from Shaun leaves Stephen with a long red to the bottom right, which is duly plugged. He soon gets the black back on its spot, and very quickly this has developed into a frame-winning chance. Two reds are near the right rail but everything else is either open or ripe to be developed.

Murphy 5-7 Maguire (21-0)

We're back, and Shaun booms in a long red to bottom left and pulls up on the brown. He's off and running, but gets a real bounce off the bottom cushion after potting the black and it makes his next red to bottom right a tough one. It doesn't go, and he's lucky not to leave anything for Stephen.

Murphy 5-7 Maguire

It's in! Shaun drains it and punches the sky as he leaves the arena. We're at the interval, and he trails Stephen by two frames. We'll be back in 15!

'What a gorgeous shot!' - Trump develops reds with expert cannon

Murphy 4-7 Maguire (53-55)

Now then! Shaun traps Stephen behind the brown, and when Stephen escapes he leaves the green on to its own pocket. The dish is on, but Shaun needs the lot and the black is tight to the bottom rail. Green, brown, blue and pink go, it's the black along the rail for the frame...

Murphy 4-7 Maguire (35-55)

There's a big old difference between 8-4 and 7-5, and both players know it. We're over five minutes into this stand off now, with neither player offering a sniff of a pot. The green has gone safe, which is some security for Stephen. He cracks first, leaving a cut on the red to bottom right. Shaun converts it, and he's on the yellow with the rest...but he's missed it and left it over its own pocket! And how about this: Stephen pots the yellow, screws back, and lands welded to the brown! He escapes the snooker to land softly on the green, and has a wry smile; these next five balls are so important in the context of this match.

'Long potting has been superb!' - Trump produces outrageous long potting sequence

Murphy 4-7 Maguire (34-53)

Shaun picks off one of the final two reds to bottom right, but lands bullet straight on the pink with no chance of getting on the last red. His break ends on 34, and we're into a safety exchange on the remaining red; this could be a crucial exchange in the match, just before the mid-session interval.

'Snuff out any thoughts of a comeback!' - Trump sinks century against Ford

Murphy 4-7 Maguire (20-53)

The white is a little short of pace after Stephen goes in and out of baulk off the blue, forcing him into a tough red to bottom right. He misses it by a long way, and it's handed a chance to Shaun. He begins mounting a comeback, but it'll be tricky with two reds and the black tied up on the bottom rail.

Murphy 4-7 Maguire (0-34)

Stephen is away again in frame 12, tagging in a thin red over the left middle and landing on the brown. A trip into the pack off the green a few shots later doesn't work out, and his break is nixed on 10. He's soon back in though as Shaun makes a complete hash of a long red to bottom right, and leaves it on over the yellow pocket. Early in the piece Stephen goes into the pack again off the blue, and he's on a red to bottom left. A third trip into the pack off the brown a few shots later dislodges the pink, and he's making a good fist of opening up an awkward table.

The old switcheroo

We're now transferring to the other table, where a break of 98 from Stephen Maguire has extended his lead over Shaun Murphy to 7-4.

Judd Trump cruises into last eight

It was a huge task for Tom Ford this morning, and one which he couldn't complete. Breaks of 107 and 84 were enough to help Judd sail over the line, and he looks in good nick this year. It's either Jak Jones or Si Jiahui next for him, and a potential semfinal ding dong with Ronnie O'Sullivan thereafter.

Trump 13-7 Ford

Judd drains a stunning red down the rail to keep his break going, but it eventually curtails on 84. That's all for this one, Judd is through to the quarterfinals.

Trump 12-7 Ford (70-0)

Tom sits in his chair, glancing up at the ceiling and then back at the table. He knows his race is run here as Judd drains frame ball red to bottom right followed by pink to left middle to make certain. Can he round things off with another century?

Trump 12-7 Ford (51-0)

A lovely shot here from Judd, as he pots the pink and comes off the side rail with heavy side to flick out the black and bring tied up reds into play. The half-century arrives, followed by a long red to the green pocket to hold for the blue. He's not far away now.

Trump 12-7 Ford (22-0)

Tom goes all out for a cut to bottom left at the start of frame 20, but gets it too thin and leaves Judd an easy starter to right middle. Judd rides his luck with position early in the break, and needs a good recovery red to bottom left to keep going. He's in prime position now, and if he can free the black to go to both corners he'll really be in business.

Trump 12-7 Ford

This is a good show of moxie from Tom, who cleans up a tricky red off the bottom cushion and then goes up for the final red, a testing little jab along the rail to the yellow. It rattles, but it drops; he's on the green and Judd now needs snookers. After a few more pots, Judd concedes the frame. If Tom can win the next one, he'll extend the argument to beyond the interval.
On our other table, Stephen Maguire now leads Shaun Murphy 6-4

Trump 12-6 Ford (28-22)

Tom picks off a yellow into the bottom right and goes into the pack. The split is nice, and leaves a red to left middle; Tom takes it on but the red flies off the bottom knuckle and away, and he could be in bother here. Judd soon takes the lead in the frame, negotiating a tricky red to right middle and then the black, but what's this? Judd misses a routine red to bottom right and Tom is back at the table!

Trump 12-6 Ford (12-1)

Every shot could be Tom's last now. After his break off in frame 19 he must be fearing the worst, as Judd proceeds to drain a long red and then a blue to green pocket; a tough pot to right middle on a red with the white welded to the side cushion follows, and he's brought more reds in to play. This is highlight reel stuff. Here's a reprieve for Tom though, as Judd misses a pink to bottom left. Tom then cuts a red in thin to bottom left, and he can strike back.

Trump 12-6 Ford

There's enough on for a ton and Judd sorts it, emptying the table for a break of 107.

Trump 11-6 Ford (60-12)

Judd rings in a half-century with the black, and soon after a red to bottom left makes it 59 and the frame is in the bank. Tom will be right up against it now, needing to win seven in a row.

Trump 11-6 Ford (31-12)

After a bout of safety Tom goes big for a red to bottom right, trying to hold for the black. The pot doesn't go, and Judd is left with a virtual practice table and an easy starter. That said, Judd does use the white a few times and has to go up to baulk to keep his break going by powering in the green. He's managed to lasso the white under control now though, and it's looking ominous for Tom as Jud's break hits 30 and counting.

Trump 11-6 Ford (1-12)

Tom is forced to play thick off the reds at the start of frame 18, which opens up everything and leaves a red over the bottom right. Judd drops it in and trusts to luck on position, but lands on nothing. Safety ensues, until Judd gambles everything on a deadweight red to the bottom right, but it rattles out. This is a big scoring chance for Ford, and he can gather a touch more momentum with a big visit here. Position goes askew early though, as he catches the knuckle of the right middle after going in and out of baulk off the blue. That leaves a mid-range red to bottom left to keep going, but he's missed it. In better news for Tom he's not left anything easy. Judd tries a plant to bottom right, but it doesn't go close.

Trump 11-6 Ford

Ford's on the board! A total of 76 wins him the first frame.

Trump 11-5 Ford (13-62)

Tom needed three bites at this but he's sealed the opening now as a red to bottom left - frame ball no less - takes his break to 61. It's a long road for him today, but the first step is done.

Trump 11-5 Ford (13-31)

A poor safety from Judd leaves a red on to right middle, which Tom clips in. Can he make this chance stick? He's added 30 very quickly so far, and all six remaining reds are in the wide open. He should put the frame away from here.

Trump 11-5 Ford (13-1)

Tom signals his intent early, by taking on a tough red to the left middle and making it, holding for black as he does so. That's a superb shot, but the next one his awful; he misses said black off its spot and leaves Judd in. That could be costly, but it isn't; Judd misses the blue on 13 and he in turn leaves Tom in. The larks continue when Tom then misses a just off straight red to bottom left from short range. Neither players has settled yet.

Baize time

Our MC Rob Walker gets it popping, and introduces the players. Let's do this!

Fordy

He’s a late bloomer is Tom. Now 40, his four Crucible visits prior to this one ended with defeat in the first round. Now ranked 14 in the world, Tom has been a finalist at the German Masters and International Championship in the last two seasons and turned over Ricky Walden in round one. It’s all uphill today though, and if he doesn’t win the opening mini-session here his tournament is done.

The Juddernaut

It’s 11-5 to Judd so far, and given the way this match has gone so far the contest might not reach the interval. If Judd can progress here he’ll be in to the quarters at the Crucible for the tenth time, for a square go with either Jak Jones or Si Jiahui.

GOOD MORNING!

Feeling daisy fresh? Good, good. It’s day eight of the 2024 World Snooker Championship, and with a bunch of seeds already eliminated this thing is really getting tasty. This morning we’ll have the conclusion of Judd Trump and Tom Ford, while keeping a keen eye on the other table where Shaun Murphy and Stephen Maguire are in action. We’ll be about the baize shortly.
