Mark Selby beaten by Tom Ford, but Judd Trump, Stuart Bingham and Shaun Murphy safely through

Mark Selby saw his World Grand Prix hopes dashed 4-2 by his friend Tom Ford, but Judd Trump and Stuart Bingham are safely into the last 16.

A day after Ronnie O'Sullivan and Neil Robertson suffered surprise defeats to Michael Holt and Peter Ebdon respectively, world number one Selby was forced to sit and suffer as Ford produced some redoubtable form to secure a meeting with Ali Carter after the former world championship finalist enjoyed a 4-1 win over Luca Brecel in Llandudno.
Leicester's Selby ran in a 60 in the first frame, but knocks of 40, 112 and 84 helped world number 48 Ford on his way to the last 16 with Selby failing to find his peak levels of form.
Defending champion Trump was not in the mood to become the latest high-profile casualty against two-times former world champion Mark Williams.
I prefer playing against the top names, said Trump. "I’d rather they were still in it because I always play worse against the lower seeds.
Trump was a 4-1 winner over Williams in the first round while world champion Bingham progressed past David Gilbert by the same scoreline
Breaks of 60, 71 and 122 were enough for Bristol's former UK champion Trump to progress with a knock of 67 from Williams in the third frame preventing a whitewash.

Williams had the chance to level at 2-2, but broke down on 49 as Trump cleared with 36 before an immaculate century break helped him to secure a meeting with Bingham in the last 16.
Bingham blew at least four obvious chances to win the first frame before losing it to a closing run of 46 by Gilbert, but that was as good as it was to get for the world number 20.
Breaks of 41, 57, 57 and 80 was more like it from Bingham, a figure who next month bids to become the first-time winner of the World Championship to retain his title the following year at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre.

Shaun Murphy took only 54 minutes to complete a 4-0 win over Michael White compiling superb runs of 75, 79 and 89 in overwhelming the Welsh player. He will face Martin Gould on Thursday.

My chances have improved now that three of the best players on the planet have gone out, but I’m too old in the tooth to say I’m going to go on and win it.
