Graeme Dott reached the World Grand Prix final after a gripping 6-4 win over Tom Ford.
Dott has never previously made it past the first round of the tournament but, having beaten Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals, held his nerve to beat Ford.
Dott made breaks of 81 and 67 to take a 2-0 lead, only for Ford to battle back and level at 2-2.
Dott won the fifth frame, but Ford reeled off breaks of 91 and 89 to move ahead for the first time in the match.
However, Dott responded with breaks of 70 and then 103 before sealing victory and setting up a final against Neil Robertson or Kyren Wilson.
World No 2 Robertson won five frames on the spin to beat Joe Perry 5-1, with the Australian making breaks of 86 and 140, and restricting his opponent to just 62 points after the first frame.
Wilson progressed with a 5-4 win over John Higgins.
The 28-year-old made breaks of 64, 89 and 74 before knocking out the four-time world champion in a decisive ninth frame.
The second semi-final takes place on Saturday evening before the final on Sunday.
