It’s full steam ahead in the snooker season in 2023, with attention shifting to the World Grand Prix.
The ink is barely dry on the 2023 Masters, but the focus of the snooker world is turning to Cheltenham for another prestigious event.
In a couple of months’ time, horses will be centre stage on the green grass of Cheltenham Racecourse for The Festival, but for now it is 12 feet of green baize that is front and centre as the Centaur Arena plays host to 32 of the biggest names in snooker.
Ronnie O’Sullivan arrives as the defending champion, after beating Neil Robertson in late 2021.
The event is contested by the top 32 players on the one-year ranking list, so it’s all about the form players of 2022/23.
When is the 2023 World Grand Prix? And where?
The 2023 World Grand Prix begins on Monday, January 16 with the final on Sunday, January 22.
The event takes place at the home of National Hunt horse racing in Cheltenham, with Prestbury Park’s Centaur Arena welcoming the players for the third time.

What is the format?
The cream of the crop in 2022/23 are in action, as the event is open to the top 32 on the one-year ranking list.
The first two rounds are a race to four frames, with the quarter-finals the best-of-nine affairs and the semi-finals best of 11. Sunday’s final will see the players slug it out over two sessions, with the target being 10 frames for the winner.
