World Grand Prix 2024 snooker LIVE – Judd Trump beats Cao Yupeng to reach final, Ronnie O'Sullivan advances to semis

Updated 19/01/2024 at 22:24 GMT

Hello and welcome to Eurosport's live updates from the World Grand Prix at the Morningside Arena in Leicester. Snooker GOAT Ronnie O'Sullivan moved into the last four with a dominant 5-1 win over Scottish Open champion Gary Wilson and a meeting with Ding Junui, who overcame Zhang Anda 5-2. In the late session, Judd Trump beat Cao Yupeng to reach the final.

No Filter: Behind the scenes as O'Sullivan wins record eighth Masters crown

That's all from me!

Right, that's us done for this evening! A terrific night for Judd Trump, and to find out who he'll face in the World Grand Prix final, join us from 6.45pm tomorrow!

Who will Trump face in the final?

It'll either be Ronnie O'Sullivan or Ding Junhui, who play their semi-final tomorrow. Here's a round up of how they won earlier today.

Trump 6-2 Cao (69-36)

And that's it! Cao offers his hand after clipping the green over the right corner. Trump is through to another ranking event final!

Trump 5-2 Cao (69-36)

Well! It looks like match over as Trump cross-doubles the yellow, only to try and smash the green home, but for the object ball to jump off the table. So that's four points back! Two more four-point snookers needed.

Trump 5-2 Cao (67-32)

Cao is giving this a good go. One terrific snooker behind the blue, another behind the pink. Trump plays two good escapes

Trump 5-2 Cao (67-32)

Cao cleans up that loose red, and adds the black, which was not easy. A poor safety follows. Can Trump finish the match? He can't, not yet. The yellow rattles the jaws and bounces to safety.

Trump 5-2 Cao (67-24)

A very hard pink into the middle as well! That's surely game over! Judd misses the final red, but Cao needs two four-point snookers to keep the match alive

Trump 5-2 Cao (*61-24)

Oh no! He tries to force the black in and it rattles the jaw! The cue ball comes back across the table and is nestled against the cushion. There's a red down the cushion for Trump, and it's effectively match ball. He pots!

Trump 5-2 Cao (60-23*)

The potential saving grace for Trump is that the cue ball runs into the cluster below the pink spot and sticks next to a red. That makes things awkward for Cao, but he acrobatically stretches, sitting on the table at the same time, and fires a red home. He's underway again.

Trump 5-2 Cao (60-0)

This is much more like the Trump we saw in the opening three frames. A clever little run-through opens up the pack of six, although he doesn't get a big bounce off the top cushion. The resulting black is hard, very hard, and he misses to the far knuckle.

Trump 5-2 Cao (*51-0)

This has been delicately done by Trump so far, five reds, each accompanied by a high-value colour. Off that fifth red, he screws back through the pack and opens things up in a very tidy manner. There is a problem, though. When the pink is re-spotted, it has to go at the back of the pack, taking a red out of commission for the time being

Trump 5-2 Cao (*14-0)

A slice of fortune and misfortune within the same shot for Trump. He pots an excellent opening red, but the white cannons into the black, which rattles the jaws and stays out. The cue ball, on the other hand, nestles against a red! He has to take the blue into the green pocket and finds the middle of the pocket. A strong start to the frame.

Trump 5-2 Cao (90-24)

Was a bit of Trump's fluency returning towards the end of that frame? He'll hope so. A break of 48 before trying some 'Naughty Snooker' and missing the pink. He's one frame from the final.

Trump 4-2 Cao (*66-24)

And it is now snookers required, as Trump adds a third blue off his third red. One red left on the table. It's on the top cushion, towards the right corner. Not an easy pot, but he makes it, and adding another blue makes Cao won't be coming back to the table

Trump 4-2 Cao (*54-24)

Trump has a lead of 18 with four reds left on the table. A poor shot from Cao gives him a chance to clean one of them up, sinking into the left middle and adding the blue. He won;t get a better chance to make it 5-2.

Trump 4-2 Cao (42-24)

Cao tidies that red up, but his break comes to an untimely end on eight with a quite remarkable miscue, as, when attempting to fire the blue into the green pocket, he gets the contact completely wrong, sending the white literally bouncing up the table as it misses the object ball altogether.

Trump 4-2 Cao (37-16)

He falls down on 27 though! Trump attempts to bring a few reds into play off the blue and it doesn't go well. The only pot is a very delicate clip to the left corner, and he misses.

Trump 4-2 Cao (*31-16)

Someone has to blink eventually, and, finally, the person who does make an error is Cao. The fact he's left the cue ball at the top end of the table is the biggest problem, because it means Trump doesn't have too much work to do to hold for the big-value colours. Things are pretty open, and he's got a huge chance now.

Trump 4-2 Cao (10-16)

Another magnificent pot, this time a cross-double. The cue ball comes back up past the baulk line. He could play a tricky green, but instead nestles in behind it with a fantastic safety off the brown. Cao is in all kinds of trouble, but he plays an incredible shot, escaping off one cushion, rolling into the pack and somehow leaving nothing

Trump 4-2 Cao (9-16)

Lots more safety play, and the table becoming more and more awkward, with black and pink tied up. Trump pots one excellent red as he creates a plant, but there's no following colour.

Trump 4-2 Cao (8-16)

Two reds and blacks for Cao, but the pack is incredibly tightly bunched up. He attempts one loose red up to the yellow pocket, only to miss. We're not in for another sticky frame, are we?

Trump 4-2 Cao (8-1*)

Is Judd on the march again? He opens up frame seven with a superb red, and gets position on the black. The next shot is incredibly tricky, requiring the extended rest for a delicate cut. He misses, and even worse, it hangs over the pocket. Cao tidies up.

Trump 4-2 Cao (77-18)

Frame over now, though! Cao puts that remaining red over the right middle, and Trump cleans up. He's restored his two frame lead, but that was a horrible frame.

Trump 3-2 Cao (62-18)

Cao returns for a couple of visits that sees him added 15 further points. One red left on the table, 44 behind

Trump 3-2 Cao (62-3)

There's only really one loose red on the table. Cao misses a pot on it, but Trump won't make any mistake, smashing home and screwing back for the blue. He takes the cue ball behind one of the four remaining reds, which he clips into the yellow pocket. Snookers required, now, but he misses the subsequent pink, so it's not frame over.

Trump 3-2 Cao (55-3)

Well! What a shot that is! Trump lays up a superb safety, but Cao spots a truly magnificent red to the right corner. It's basically the only shot he has on, but he hits it perfectly, and then gets a huge slice of luck as the cue ball sends another red up towards the yellow, knocking it over the pocket! What a slice of fortune! He misses the next red though, hitting it with too much pace.

Trump 3-2 Cao (55-0)

A contribution of 46 from Trump, until he runs aground after losing position off a red. The subsequent blue misses, but with six reds left on the table, and the way they're positioned, that is a very, very handy 55 point lead

Trump 3-2 Cao (*42-0)

The table is looking much nicer now, too, as he's freed the pink up by potting it. There's plenty of choice of reds, too. Is he beginning to find that rhythm that saw him dominate the opening three frames?

Trump 3-2 Cao (*22-0)

Another opening for Trump, now, as Cao goes in-off for the second time in the frame. Still, with black and pink tied up, the cue ball is having to do a lot of work as he has to keep going up for the blue. Either way, he'll just be happy to be back at the table and scoring after the last two frames.

Trump 3-2 Cao (1-0)

A bit of an impasse on what is an increasingly odd looking table at the start of frame six. Trump does pot one ball, but with the black off its spot and the pink tied up, it's only a solitary point. As for the rest of the table, 11 of the remaining 14 reds are to the left of the table, including three of them being near the corner pocket - with the black in tow.

Trump 3-2 Cao (7-79)

He certainly will. Trump, in truth, could have been 5-0 up, but Cao makes it 3-2 with some terrific pots, including a wonderful red up to the yellow pocket and a blue to green pocket. A break of 30 does the business.

Trump 3-1 Cao (7-57*)

Another attempt at a pot for Trump, but once more he misses, leaving a red to the right corner for Cao. Surely he'll put the frame to bed, now.

Trump 3-1 Cao (7-49)

It won't be a sizeable contribution, though. The Chinese player attempts to run through the pack to hold for the black, when he should have gone up for the blue. He snookers himself on the black and plays safe off the brown. 42 his lead, with four reds left on the table

Trump 3-1 Cao (7-48*)

For the third time tonight, Trump goes in-off! Cao attempts another pot, which misses and careers back up the table, knocking a further red over the right corner. Judd has to swerve to hit it, which he does, only for both balls to go into the pocket! Another chance for Cao to put up a sizeable contribution.

Trump 3-1 Cao (7-36)

Even worse for Cao, he leaves a delicate red to the left corner, the same object ball that he attempted to clip home when his break reached an end. Trump pots, and adds te blue, off which he goes into the pack. Again, not a great result. There's a red to the right middle, which starts to dip into the pocket but doesn't go down!

Trump 3-1 Cao (1-36)

It's fair to say Cao has never quite had prime position in this frame. The reds aren't particularly well set, which the pink and black are off their spots. He's going to have to split the pack, and rejects the chance to do so off the blue, despite having a good angle. Two shots later, when potting the black, he attempts to brush into them, but misses. Break over.

Trump 3-1 Cao (1-11*)

Trump got a terrific cue ball with that pot, but he hasn't spotted a three ball plant at the back of the pack! Cao has certainly seen it though, and he wonderfully converts to the right corner, and gets some luck with the white too, which is on the green. He then plays a stun run-through off a red, but doesn't quite run far enough, so a straight blue leaves another tricky shot. There's no mistake with that, either. Could we be witnessing another comeback?

Trump 3-1 Cao (1-0)

A decent safety exchange ends in Trump potting a very good red to get frame five underway. He doesn't get a great white though, and with the black off its spot, he surprisingly plays safe off the pink, rejecting a long blue up to the yellow pocket

We go again!

And just like that, the interval is over and the players are back. Can Cao get back into this one? Stick with us to find out

Is the end nigh for O'Sullivan?

The Rocket says he has no plans to retire anytime soon, but he's clearly not loving life at the moment. Ken Doherty and Neal Foulds think he may call time after this year's World Championship.

To the mid-session interval we go

A short break for both players, then. A chance to consider the lay of the land. Trump needs three more frames to reach a fifth ranking event final of the season - the task a touch harder for Cao, who requires five .

Trump 3-1 Cao (55-62)

Cao won't miss on a second occasion though! He clinically sinks the black to win the frame. Remember, he came from 3-0 down against Mark Williams last night. Could we see something similar tonight? He'll certainly be feeling a bit better after that!

Trump 3-0 Cao (55-55)

Two poor shots on the black from Trump, the second sending it up to the baulk line. Cao has a chance to pot it into the green pocket, but he hits it hard and after rattling the jaws, it stays up. Now, a chance for Judd to play it into the right corner, and he suffers the same fate.

Trump 3-0 Cao (55-55)

There's an issue coming up for Cao, in that when Trump missed a pot earlier, he cannoned the blue onto the side cushion. There's a chance to move it when sinking the yellow, and he does so perfectly, nudging the ball over the left middle. Green and brown added, blue clipped home, and the pink and black sunk as well. That's a truly superb break of 43, and we're in for a re-spotted black.

Trump 3-0 Cao (55-28*)

Cao eventually pots that penultimate red, and a magnificent black, despite the white being tight to the cushion, keeps the frame alive. Another red and black converted mean the frame is still alive as we move onto the colours

Trump 3-0 Cao (55-12)

Cao pots one red and adds the pink, while trying - unsuccessfully - to nudge one of the two remaining reds away from the cushion. That means he can only draw, but even so he'd need two blacks with those two reds. He misses his next pot, too.

Trump 3-0 Cao (55-5)

A slight misjudge of pace on the cue ball as he ends up dead straight on the blue. That means the next red isn't too easy, but he's confident, and sinks one into the right corner from mid-distance. Next up is a tricky pink, delicately cut back into the left corner, and it just about stays up. 50 ahead, with 51 left on the table.

Trump 3-0 Cao (*35-5)

Even worse for the 33-year old, he leaves a nice starter for Judd. There are still a few loose reds for him to pick off, and a delightful shot off the blue, nudging into the pack, means the table looks even prettier for him now.

Trump 3-0 Cao (16-5)

Not safe enough, though. Cao picks out a long red, and this time he can add a colour, the yellow to the right middle. He has to make the most of his chance, you feel, but a pot from the second red leaves the cue ball behind the baulk line again. A brown to the left middle hits the far jaw and it's end of break.

Trump 3-0 Cao (16-1)

And the risk when you miss, is you might leave something for the man who isn't. Judd starts with a red to the same pocket, and brilliantly holds the cue ball for the black. There's plenty of loose reds, and once more you feel like this is a decent opportunity, until he tries to go into the pack but doesn't quite get the cue power and sticks to a red. Touching ball, so he plays safe.

Trump 3-0 Cao (0-1)

Finally, Cao has potted his first ball! He leaves Trump in all kinds of bother with a safety that sees the white nestle in behind the brown. Although Judd doesn't foul, he leaves a red to the right middle, which is sunk. Unfortunately the white settles on the baulk line after brushing the yellow. A long blue to the right corner is risky. He hits it hard, and it rattles the jaws, but doesn't go down.

Trump 3-0 Cao (83-4)

A contribution of 22 takes Trump to the third frame. He misses a red with the spider, and perhaps Cao could have come back to the table to finally pot a ball, but he rejects that chance. He's got a mountain to climb.

Trump 2-0 Cao (*78-4)

Cao can't capitalise though. He tries to pot a long red into the right corner, but misses, and it rebounds across the table for Judd to clean up, and then some.

Trump 2-0 Cao (61-4)

Oh, hang on! An error! Trump clips a red into the right corner, but the cue ball, with side on it, hits the cushion and dribbles into the left middle. He looks perplexed. Break over!

Trump 2-0 Cao (*61-0)

By the time he reaches 50, there's a cluster of six reds near the pink spot. From now on, every time he pots one, another will come free. In that sense, the break is becoming easier, and he's closing in on that snookers required stage, once more.

Trump 2-0 Cao (*45-0)

The screw into the pack is coming up, and the cue ball fizzes through them. He's a little unlucky again, with not much coming out, but it does enough. There's then a green, swinging the white delicately up the table, before using his cue power to screw into the pack again, this time off the black. Again, not much comes out, but there's a red to the left middle to keep going.

Trump 2-0 Cao (*25-0)

Crikey, Trump is playing well. Cao attempts a long red to the right, left by Judd from his break. He takes is slowly, and misses, but doesn't appear to have left anything.
Trump has other ideas though; a magnificent red up into the yellow pocket, swerving the cue ball delicately through a gap in the pack. That gets him underway, a tough black and another long red follow, and at last he has position. This is looking very ominous for his opponent.

Trump 2-0 Cao (106-4)

Well, he doesn't make life easy for himself, but he gets there! An attempt to play on the black sees the cue ball come up just short. The recovery pot is a long pink to the green pocket, which takes him to 99. He then needs a superb, delicate red down the cushion to bring up the century. A 2-0 lead in double-quick time

Trump 1-0 Cao (*77-4)

This could barely have been a better start from Trump. His 10th red means Cao requires snookers, but there's no way he'll be coming back to the table after a blue and further red are added. Can he get a century?

Trump 1-0 Cao (*54-4)

It won't a 147, though, with the top seed taking a blue off his sixth red. He also goes into the bunch from that shot, and the cue ball sticks in among them after going off two cushions. He puffs his cheeks out. He deserved a bit more luck there. There's a really tough red to the left corner, bridging over another and playing right handed, but it goes right into the middle of the pocket.

Trump 1-0 Cao (*32-4)

Cao can't take advantage though. The red that Trump missed came back up the table and was a delicate cue into the yellow pocket. He misses, and leaves Judd with a golden opportunity to put up another score. Once again, he's looking good among the balls. Four red and four blacks, so far.

Trump 1-0 Cao (0-4)

Not as positive a start to the second frame for Trump. Cao gets a good cue ball on his break, leaving a tough long red to the left corner. The sound off Judd's cue isn't great, and the white subsequently rolls straight into the pocket.

Trump 1-0 Cao (80-0)

An impressive start from Trump. Cool and patient in the safety exchange at the start, clinical when given a potting opportunity. Two further nudges into the pack mean he's now well pass the winning line. A break of 70 enough to take the frame.

Trump 0-0 Cao (*64-0)

As is often, the key shot is going to come when Trump decides to go into the pack. He has a chance off the black, but instead just flicks into the bottom corner, releasing three further reds. By taking them, he is very close to making it snookers required

Trump 0-0 Cao (*34-0)

Judd's back at the table now, though, after another Cao error. The Chinese player could easily have just rolled in behind the brown to leave Trump snookered, but instead attempted a long pot to the right corner, which he misses. That leaves the top seed with a chance to put up his first meaningful break, and he's duly delivering.

Trump 0-0 Cao (10-0)

Cao has just made one of the most incredible misjudgements. After a lengthy safety battle, he's attempting a play a containing safety. With the cue ball near the baulk cushion, he somehow gets his angles all wrong, and brushes the green on the way through to the pack, which he doesn't reach, because he clatters the blue instead!
A foul and a miss called, leaving Trump in prime position to sink the first pot of the night. The position of the colours mean he only adds six further points though, thanks to two reds and a brown.

Here we go!

We are underway in Leicester! It's top seed Trump who breaks off. What a night we have in store. Stick with us to find out who's going through to the final!

Speaking of Ronnie...

He had more to say about his future, both before and after that clash with Gary Wilson. He says he needs some time away from the game.

In case you missed it...

Here's our report from this afternoon's action, as Ronnie O'Sullivan breezed through to the semi-finals

How they go here

Trump reached the last-16 with a 4-2 win over Jamie Jones, before beating Lyu Haotian and Mark Selby 4-0 and 5-1 respectively.
Cao on the other hand started with a narrow 4-3 victory over Barry Hawkins, before whitewashing Shaun Murphy and coming from behind to beat Mark Williams 5-4. He's bidding to reach a fourth ranking event final.

Tonight's entertainment

So we already know that Ding and Ronnie will face off tomorrow in the semis. But what about tonight? Well, we've got Judd Trump against Cao Yupeng in store, with a race to six frames to find the winner.

Good evening!

Hello and welcome to tonight's coverage from the World Grand Prix. The semi-finals get underway this evening after wins for Ding Junhui and Ronnie O'Sullivan this afternoon, and we've got a cracker of a match coming up

Result: O'Sullivan 5-1 Wilson

Ronnie with breaks of 68, 129, 78 and 58 to set up a semi-final with Ding Junhui or Zhang Anda on Saturday night. Ding completed a 5-2 win over Zhang in the remaining quarter-final.
Ding with breaks of 102, 51, 73 and closing 74 to secure another meeting with O'Sullivan, who defeated him in the UK final and the Masters first round in recent weeks.
We will be back at 6:45pm with the first semi-final of this year's World Grand Prix as Judd Trump takes on Cao Yupeng.

Friday January 19 World Grand Prix schedule

Quarter-finals
  • 1pm: Gary Wilson 1-5 Ronnie O'Sullivan
  • 1pm: Zhang Anda 2-5 Ding Junhui
Semi-finals
  • 7pm: Judd Trump v Cao Yupeng

O'Sullivan 4-1 Wilson (122-6)

So Gary won the first frame, but will probably prefer to forget about the next five out there. O'Sullivan just too good really. Not only for Wilson, but the rest of the circuit. A closing knock of 58 from Ronnie and he continues along his merry way.

O'Sullivan 4-1 Wilson (75-6)

A 54 break from Ronnie before he runs out of position. Short of the pink on the roll up. But hits it the second time. Leaves a tough cut on red for Ronnie, but he drops it in with ease. Still not over the line though as O'Sullivan can't split the remaining reds. Wilson then sees a white hit a red before racing down the green pocket. Just about sums it up for him today. O'Sullivan heading for a 91st ranking event semi-final.

O'Sullivan 4-1 Wilson (46-0)

This has been brilliant from O'Sullivan today. No matter what he is saying off the table, his body language is really good. Wilson looking forlorn as he misses a long red by miles, and gives it the thumbs up when the double kiss arrived off red. Could be a big break for Ronnie to finish.

O'Sullivan 3-1 Wilson (57-55)

Well, that is some steal for Ronnie. As cool as you like. Looked in the bag for Gary, but he is punished for a poor shot after moving 52 clear with 51 left up. O'Sullivan got the snooker, and the rest is history.

O'Sullivan 3-1 Wilson (39-55)

Ronnie needing a snooker in this frame, so continues the fight after slotting two reds and black. Incredibly, Wilson misses the red as white somehow goes around it in baulk. Didn't seem possible. And O'Sullivan plays another nasty snooker. Escapes, but leaves the yellow. 25 points in it, 27 points left up. And in goes the yellow for Ronnie. Needs the remaining colours.

O'Sullivan 3-1 Wilson (3-40)

Wilson going along nicely in this frame. Two fine recovery pots on red and yellow. Really should see out the frame from this position. Nothing overly tricky to negotiate.

O'Sullivan 3-1 Wilson (3-16)

Safety blunder by O'Sullivan trying to arrow the white back to the baulk end. Opportunity then for Wilson to get hand on table and piece together a few points.

O'Sullivan 3-1 Wilson (3-3)

Another fluke for Ronnie, but can't land on a red from a fine pot on a yellow along the baulk cushion. No damage done yet in this frame.

O'Sullivan 3-1 Wilson (0-2)

Boys back on the baize then. O'Sullivan two frames short of the semi-final in this contest. Wilson leaves a cut on a red to right middle off the break-off shot, but was thin and red doesn't drop. Gary drops in the red, but just safety to follow.

O'Sullivan 2-1 Wilson (86-1)

A break of 78 from O'Sullivan, and he moves 3-1 clear. Two more needed to reach the last four. Two good so far.

O'Sullivan 2-1 Wilson (70-1)

Well, this is another exceptional display by O'Sullivan, who is really warming to the occasion in freezing January. Every chance of back-to-back centuries coming up.

O'Sullivan 2-1 Wilson (47-1)

Wilson probably can't believe the bad running he has had so far, but must put that out of his mind here. With O'Sullivan right in the mood to pile on the points. Every chance of moving 3-1 ahead in next to no time. Winner of this match faces Ding Junhui or Zhang Anda in the last four. That match level at 1-1.

O'Sullivan 2-1 Wilson (26-1)

So unlucky for Gary as he pots a tricky cut on a pink to the left centre, but sees a red drop down a top bag at the same time. And he has left Ronnie right bang in the heart of the action. Which is probably not advisable.

O'Sullivan 2-1 Wilson (0-0)

Ronnie with the break-off shot for the fourth frame of a possible nine. One more frame before the mid-session interval.

O'Sullivan 1-1 Wilson (129-0)

A classy break from O'Sullivan with a supreme knock of 129, and he moves 2-1 ahead in the race to five.

O'Sullivan 1-1 Wilson (103-0)

And in goes the century. 103. His third ton of the week. A quite magical piece of shot-making. Really is. The crowd loving every second of it.

O'Sullivan 1-1 Wilson (68-0)

This a joyful piece of break-building. At one with the table as he chases a 12th straight match win.

O'Sullivan 1-1 Wilson (52-0)

O'Sullivan looking right at the peak of his powers here as he opens up the reds via the black. What another great shot that is. Looking very, very good at close range. Average shot time is 15 seconds.

O'Sullivan 1-1 Wilson (19-0)

Great long red by Ronnie at the outset of the third frame, and he holds for the black. No thought about hedging his bets. Heavy contact on red, but in goes a terrific recovery pot on the yellow. What a brilliant pot.

O'Sullivan 0-1 Wilson (98-1)

A rapid break of 68 from Ronnie, and this match is level at 1-1. Battle is joined at the World Grand Prix.

O'Sullivan 0-1 Wilson (82-1)

Break heads over 50. Nice stuff this from Rocket Ronnie. Really is. No matter what he might think.

O'Sullivan 0-1 Wilson (68-1)

Well, would you believe that. A huge fluke for Ronnie on a red trying to play safe, and he has landed right in among the reds. Glorious chance to level up this match at 1-1. Wilson with a rueful smile in his chair. "Just need to park it and move on," says 1994 Masters champion Alan McManus.

O'Sullivan 0-1 Wilson (30-0)

Excellent long red by O'Sullivan to get himself moving early in the second frame. Brilliant shot by Ronnie to crack open the pack of reds off the blue before he tucks home a neat black to keep break going. But he then misses a cut on red from the yellow as break ends on 30. And he isn't happy with that effort as he heads back to his seat.

O'Sullivan 0-0 Wilson (57-67)

A real scrappy frame, but a brilliant 44 closing break by Gary is good enough to get the job done. A quite stunning shot from Wilson to spring the black from the side cushion near the baulk line after slotting pink off the spot. Black rolls up over the green bag, and that is easy pot to see out the frame. He leads 1-0.

O'Sullivan 0-0 Wilson (57-36)

Some of the safety has been top drawer from both men. Another superb safety by Ronnie brings about the error from Wilson, and this is chance to win the first frame for the Masters winner. But he can't slot a tough red along top cushion. And on we go with Wilson trying to claw back this deficit.

O'Sullivan 0-0 Wilson (50-23)

O'Sullivan not making the most of that chance, and a fine safety shot by Wilson prompts the error from Ronnie. But he can't cash in as a red fails to drop with awkward cueing. What is O'Sullivan going to make here? Plenty of points to go at. But he then misses a red using the rest. Reprieve for Wilson. Four reds left up.

O'Sullivan 0-0 Wilson (26-9)

Interesting safety joust between the players. Nobody pushing the boat out before Ronnie comes up with a stunning shot to rest behind the green on baulk cushion Gary responds with the containing safety. Decent shot too. But O'Sullivan breaks the deadlock with a brilliant pot on red to right middle. And in goes the mid-range pink to follow.

O'Sullivan 0-0 Wilson (13-9)

Ronnie with a couple of attempts to escape from a snooker nominating green before getting there the third time. O'Sullivan just failing to land on black from a longish red. Wilson then nails his own long red before rolling up behind the brown.

O'Sullivan 0-0 Wilson (6-0)

Wilson breaks off the first frame of a possible nine. First man to five frames will take their place in the last four. O'Sullivan slots a long red from distance straight off the bat. What a way to set your stall out.

12:55 – Wilson doubles up at Scottish Open

Gary Wilson produced a power-packed display to dominate the opening session of the Scottish Open final with Noppon Saengkham and he built on it at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh last month to wrap up a 9-5 victory and successfully defend the Stephen Hendry Trophy. Wilson is chasing a third ranking title of his career ahead of his quarter-final with Ronnie O'Sullivan at the World Grand Prix.

Hello and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE updates from the World Grand Prix in Leicester. We have two quarter-finals first up with UK and Masters champion Ronnie O'Sullivan facing Scottish Open holder Gary Wilson and Ding Junhui playing Zhang Anda. Later on this evening, the first of the semi-finals takes place with Judd Trump playing Cao Yupeng.

'I definitely need a break' - O'Sullivan casts doubt on snooker future

World No. 1 Ronnie O'Sullivan continued his outstanding run of form to edge out Zhou Yuelong 4-3 in reaching the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix in Leicester before admitting he needs a break from the sport.
O'Sullivan reached the 141st ranking event quarter-final of his golden 32-year career by producing breaks of 67, 107, 50 and 90, but was far from happy with his performance in securing a meeting with Scottish Open champion Gary Wilson on Friday. Wilson reached the last eight with a 4-2 win against Tom Ford.
O'Sullivan is enjoying one of his best seasons on the professional circuit having won the Shanghai Masters, UK Championship and Masters, but cut a downbeat figure despite completing a sixth straight win over an in-form Zhou, who produced runs of 76, 102 and 65, enjoyed a pot success rate of 95% and did little wrong in losing a high-quality encounter.
“I can’t fathom it out,” said O’Sullivan on ITV. “I’ve got to really consider whether I can continue feeling how I'm feeling out there. I just don't get any enjoyment from the way I'm hitting the ball.
"It's just hard work, and I haven't a clue where the balls are going. It is just guesswork. And it is a struggle.
"The worst thing is you are winning bloody tournaments. If I was getting pumped first round every match, it would be an easy decision to make. I'm getting no enjoyment out of it to be honest with you."
