Julie Zogg seals second parallel slalom world championship

Julie Zogg claimed gold in the parallel slalom at the World Championships. She beat Swiss compatriot Ladina Jenny in the big final. On the men’s side, event it was gold for Olympic silver medallist Andreas Prommegger, who beat fellow Austrian Arvid Auner by 0.44 seconds to upgrade from his silver in 2021.

‘Huge effort’ – Zogg seals parallel slalom gold

Julie Zogg claimed her second parallel slalom World Championship gold with victory in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Zogg, who leads the overall parallel standings in the snowboard World Cup, powered past Swiss compatriot Ladina Jenny by 0.26 seconds to take victory and add to her gold from 2019.

Sabine Schoeffmann took bronze ahead of 2021 silver medallist Ramona Theresia Hofmeister, to earn her first world championship medal.

Ladina had knocked out heavily favoured Daniela Ulbing, who sits second in the overall parallel World Cup standings, in the first round and then beat Italy's Lucia Dalmasso before finally being edged out by Zogg.

In the men's event it was gold for Olympic silver medallist Andreas Prommegger, who beat fellow Austrian Arvid Auner by 0.44 seconds to upgrade from his silver in 2021.

Canada's Arnaud Gaudet earned bronze ahead of Fabian Obmann by 0.63 seconds to deny an Austrian podium sweep.

With leading World Cup pair Alexander Payer and Maurizio Bormolini both absent from the final after falling in qualifying, the door opened for Prommegger and Oskar Kwiatkowski.

It was Prommegger who took the chance, as Kwiatkowski went out in the first round to Obmann, paving the way for the Austrian to power past Aaron March and Gaudet on his way to gold.
