Erin Jackson and Casey Dawson take Four Continents gold on home ice in Salt Lake City, Valerie Maltais claims 3000m win

Both skaters delighted the home crowd in Salt Lake City, as Erin Jackson beat fellow American Kimi Goetz by 0.11 seconds to claim victory in the women's 500m, with the podium completed by Kim Min-sun. Meanwhile, Casey Dawson was victorious in he men's 5000m after topping a podium which also consisted of Canadian duo Graeme Fish and Ted-Jan Bloemen.
Erin Jackson claimed 500m gold on home ice at the 2024 Four Continents Speed Skating Championships.
Jackson beat compatriot Kimi Goetz by 0.11 seconds in Salt Lake City to take victory in 36.82 seconds, with Kim Min-sun completing the podium.
The men's 500m crown was taken by Laurent Dubreuil, who successfully defended his title from a year ago in a time of 34.19 seconds.
It was 0.04 seconds faster than Olympic bronze medallist Wataru Morishige, who edged fellow Japanese skater Tatsuya Shinhama by 0.05 seconds for silver and bronze respectively.
There was further home success in the men's 5000m, as Casey Dawson claimed gold ahead of Canadian pair Graeme Fish and Ted-Jan Bloemen.
Dawson came home in a time of 6:14.14, just 0.02 seconds ahead of Fish, with Bloemen a further 0.06 seconds back as the trio dominated in Utah. Fourth-place Rick Tsuchiya was 11.59 seconds off the lead.
The women's 3000m was won by Valerie Maltais, who led a Canadian one-two ahead of Isabelle Weidemann.
Maltais finished almost a second ahead of her countrywoman in a time of 4:01.71 to claim her fourth Four Continents gold, and successfully defend the title she won in Quebec a year ago.
Olympic silver medallist Weidemann took silver ahead of 2020 champion Mia Manganello of the USA.
