South Korea open Short Track Speed Skating World Cup with pair of golds thanks to Park Ji-won and Hwang Dae-heon

Olympic champion Hwang Dae-heon and compatriot Park Ji-won both topped the podium in Montreal. Park won the men's 1000m, while Canada's Steven Dubois and Italy's Pietro Sighel completed the podium. Meanwhile, Hwang was victorious in the men's 1500m, as Belgian Stijn Desmet came second and Latvia's Reinis Berzins finished in third place.

South Korea opened the new Short Track Speed Skating World Cup season with a pair of golds in Montreal.
Crystal Globe holder Park Ji-won took victory in the men's 1000m, while the 1500m crown went to compatriot Hwang Dae-heon.
Park, who finished top of last year's World Cup standings in both the 1000m and 1500m and clinched world gold in Seoul in March, edged Canada's Steven Dubois to top spot in a time of 1:24.903.
Dubois was just 0.013 seconds behind with Italy's Pietro Sighel taking bronze.
Reigning Olympic champion Hwang clocked 2:23.666 to finish ahead of European silver medallist Stijn Desmet in the 1500m, with Latvia's Reinis Berzins completing the podium in third.
There was also Korean success in the women's 1000m, as Lee Soyoun and Seo Whimin took silver and bronze respectively behind Kristen Santos-Griswold.
The American finished in 1:31.288 to end up just under 12 seconds ahead of the chasing pack.
The 1500m was won by Belgium's Hanne Desmet, with the Olympic 1000m bronze medallist finishing ahead of Korea's Kim Gilli, who topped last season's standings, and USA's Corinne Stoddard.
The mixed relay was won by China, with South Korea taking silver and Italy bronze.
The Chinese team of Li Gong, Shaoang Liu, Shaolin Liu, and Yize Zang pipped their Korean opponents by just 0.083 seconds, with the two teams 17 seconds ahead of Italy.
