Carlin, who won gold in the 800m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games, also added European gold to her collection when she claimed 400 and 800 metre glory in Berlin.
However, the 24-year-old is not resting on her laurels and believes she still has plenty more to offer in the pool. "You can always improve on things and I just want to be the best that I can be," Carlin said.
"I like doing all the work in training and I like putting in all the effort.
"I've got a few years left in me and I'm hoping to keep improving.
"I'm a second away from Becky Adlington's British and European record so I think that will be the target in the next few years.
"Rio's in the back of my mind all the time with me missing out on the London Olympics.
"It's definitely a big goal of mine and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I'm there and performing at my best."
