Tennis news - Kyle Edmund wins maiden ATP title in Antwerp

British number one Kyle Edmund defeated Gael Monfils 3-6 7-6(2) 7-6(4) in the European Open final in Antwerp to win the first ATP title of his career on Sunday.

The 23-year-old lost his serve in the opening set which was dominated by Monfils as the Frenchman claimed a 6-3 win in just 31 minutes with the help of three aces.
Edmund - the tournament's top seed - brilliantly fought back in the second set and dominated the tie-break which forced a tense decider.
The third set saw both players save two break points and led to another tie-break.
Edmund won the tie-break 7-4 and completed his victory with the first match point.
The Brit broke down in tears of joy upon winning the first ATP Tour singles title of his career after a successful year where he reached his first Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open and a career-high world ranking of 14.
