Cameron Norrie beats David Goffin to reach Lyon quarter-finals, Harriet Dart loses in French Open qualifying

It was a mixed day for British tennis, as Cameron Norrie continued his love affair with the Lyon Open to reach the quarter-finals for a third successive year, while there were losses for Harriet Dart, Ryan Peniston, Jan Choinski, Francesca Jones and Katie Boulter in French Open qualifying. Cameron Norrie beat David Goffin to reach the Lyon quarter-finals, while Harriet Dart lost in French Open qualifying.
The British men's No. 1, the second seed for the ATP 250 event, has had a mixed clay campaign to date, failing to get past the last 16 of any event.
But he was impressive in downing former world No. 7 Goffin in straight sets 6-3 6-4, especially as he trailed 3-1 in the second set.
Norrie, the current world No. 14, will face sixth seed Sebastian Baez in the quarter-finals as he bids to defend the title he won last year.
The 27-year-old Brit will be hoping to improve on his best showing at the upcoming French Open - a third round appearance in both 2022 and 2021.
Jack Draper is also in action in Lyon this week, and will play his quarter-final match against Francisco Cerundolo on Thursday, having beaten fifth seed Miomir Kecmanovic on Tuesday.
Meanwhile in qualifying for Roland-Garros, Dart suffered a disappointing defeat to France's Elsa Jacquemot.
Dart raced through the first set to take it 6-1, but the match swung back the other way thereafter.
First Dart lost the second set by the same 6-1 scoreline, and then couldn't find the answers she needed in the decider, succumbing 6-2.
It was a similar story for fellow Brit Jan Choinski, who looked assured in taking the opening set in his qualifying match against Sebastian Ofner of Austria, 6-3.
However he lost the second set 6-4 and then was bagelled in the last.
Elsewhere in Paris, there were losses for Ryan Peniston and Francesca Jones, with the latter retiring from her match.
Peniston took the first set 6-2 against Romanian eighth seed Radu Albot, but then proceeded to lose the second by the same scoreline.
The decider then went the way of Albot, who stormed into a 5-1 lead before sealing it 6-4, despite a fightback from the Brit.
Jones was trailing 4-1 in the first set of her meeting with Switzerland's Ylena In-Albon before deciding she couldn't continue.
The 22-year-old had impressively beaten American Coco Vandeweghe, a two-time Grand Slam semi-finallist, in her first match.
Katie Boulter was also beaten but not without a fight in her match against American Ashlyn Krueger, which ended 2-6, 6-2, 6-7(6).
She lost the opening set 6-2 before racing back into the tie with a 6-2 effort of her own to draw level.
The decider needed a tie break to separate the pair, which Krueger edged 10-6.
