Alex De Minaur will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his maiden Masters 1000 semi-final tie after he ousted second seed Daniil Medvedev 7-6(7) 7-5 in the latest Toronto upset. After coming back from 5-1 down in the opening set of his previous match with Taylor Fritz, De Minaur repeated his powers of recovery from 5-2 down to take the first set against Medvedev, and eventually, the match.

De Minaur records impressive win over second seed Medvedev in Toronto

Alex De Minaur reached his first Masters semi-final after beating second seed Daniil Medvedev 7-6(7) 7-5 at the Canadian Open in Toronto.
After coming from 5-1 down in the opening set to beat Taylor Fritz on Thursday, the Australian had to showcase his comeback skills for the second successive match to clinch the win.
This time, De Minaur was 5-2 down in the first set before showing his powers of recovery to force a tie-breaker and fend off three set points to take the lead.
And the hard work would continue as he rallied back twice from a break down in the second set to secure his place in the last four.
"I had to play some of my best tennis," De Minaur said. "It has been a great week for me so far. I played the right way today.
“I think having played him at the end of last year gave me the confidence that I had a chance. I just had to play the right way and I am extremely proud of the effort and to still be alive.
"I know every time I play Daniil it will be a chess match. We are both very good at adapting and playing different styles and it brings the best out of me. I have to be aggressive and take the chances I get.
"I think this style of tennis is my best style of tennis."
The 24-year-old will meet Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the next round on Saturday after the Spaniard beat Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets, 6-4 6-2, as he continued his impressive Toronto run.
Paul will next face Jannik Sinner after he beat Gael Monfils.
