Vajda, a former Slovakia Davis Cup captain, expressed the opinion in a Q & A with Czech newspaper MF DNES.
Q: Did you ever doubt that you were steering Novak Djokovic in the right way?
Vajda: In training I often had concern about whether we were doing things right. It now looks like have gone about things the right way. Novak is one of the brightest talents in the game and he can soon become the world's number one, I am now convinced of that fact. We will now do everything we can to win another Grand Slam title.
Q: Can Novak become number one this season?
Vajda: If he to continues going at his current tempo then he might make it. The Australian Open triumph will boost him.
Q: In your opinion, has the Roger Federer era come to an end?
Vajda: I don't know, but it definitely has been eroded somewhat. This is a turning point, before the Australian Open his dominance had been enormous, now it will not be. I don't know though if the turning point will be that big or that we will have a new ATP leader at the end of the year, but we are very close to that point.
Q: What will this first Grand Slam title mean for Novak?
Vajda: He will be more relaxed. The pressure on him has been enormous, now it will take its natural course, Novak will be more self-confident.
Q: Is there a danger it will make him big-headed?
Vajda: No, he is well built to cope with it. He is a polite lad.
Q: He is well-known for his jokes. Does he dare to make fun of you?
Vajda: Yeah, he always seems to have his jokes ready.
Q: Has he ever tried to imitate you on the court?
Vajda: Yes, he imitated my backhand, which made me angry because my backhand is not that good any more. Fortunately, he has now turned to parodying women. He has stopped imitating me and turned to imitating Maria Sharapova.
Q: So, it is a case of one champion imitating another champion?
Vajda: Yes, they both won the Australian Open. What Novak did in that tournament is just great. I really appreciate that he won the title in such style. And people in the western world at least found out that even a player from such a small country, like Serbia is, can win a Grand Slam. Tennis is enjoying a big boom there.
