If his first-round defeat of 11th seed Kevin Anderson was his biggest scalp, Edmund’s sensational performance to beat Seppi was his biggest statement of intent yet.

Edmund: It's a good feeling to make the quarters

After fighting back from a set and a break down having lost the opener in a tie-break, Edmund’s massive forehand was in full effect and he was serving impeccably too, finishing with 25 aces.
With Andy Murray missing due to injury and Johanna Konta making an early exit, British hopes were residing in the world number 49, who had shown flashes of talent in Slams but had only ever reached one fourth round: the US Open in 2016.

But Edmund produced the performance of a lifetime to batter Seppi into submission and set up a last-eight meeting with third seed Grigor Dimitrov.
The British number two enjoyed 63 winners to Seppi's 42, and after his stumble in the first set, it was a masterful display of power hitting.
Edmund, who went five sets with Anderson in round one and again in brutal heat in round three, required medical treatment on his shoulder in the first set but looked untroubled by it for the rest of the match.
"Through to my first quarter-final - I am very happy," said Edmund.
"It was a close first set and I didn't feel I got the best start. He was hitting the ball very clean.
"In the second set I tried to shift the momentum and once I broke him in the last game of the second set I took control of the match."
