Third seed Argentine David Nalbandian survived a stern test against Marc Lopez of Spain 6-4 6-4 and will face Kristof Vliegen in the quarterfinals after the Belgian beat France's Olivier Patience 6-3 6-4.

Former world number one Gustavo Kuetern knocked out Argentine Guillermo Canas 6-3 6-7 (1-7) 6-3.
