Germany will be without their number one singles player Tommy Haas when they play South Korea in the Davis Cup world group first round in February.
Haas recently had surgery on his shoulder and while the world number 12 expects to return in time for the Australian Open in January he has decided not to play the tie for Germany.
"I believe the team is strong enough to get through without me," Haas said. "Playing for Germany is a privilege and when my body allows it I'll be ready."
Germany, who lost to Russia in the semi-finals this year, have opted to play the tie against South Korea on clay in Braunschweig.
