GB had to come from a set down and overcome an injury scare to Andy Murray to secure the tie at a jubilant Queen’s.
Great Britain need one more point on Sunday to win their quarter-final - watch it LIVE on Eurosport and Eurosport Player from 11:30 UK time.
The importance of the doubles rubber cannot be understated - a fact Andy Murray was acutely aware of if his celebration to claiming a third-set tie-break is anything to go by.
The tie had begun in fairly ignominious fashion for GB as the French pair took the first stanza having broken the serve of Andy Murray in the very first game of the match but the Murrays responded to take the second set to level matters.
"I thought both of us served well apart from the first game when I was broken I don't believe they had any break point until Jamie's last service game," a fired up Andy said after the tie.
An untimely slip in the 11th game of the third set had briefly looked as though it could derail GB’s hopes altogether.

However, worries that the groin injury that befell Murray after his slip would impede his play were soon dispelled when he held serve to send the set to a tie-breaker.
"It's sore but there's only one more match then I can rest after that," the 28-year-old said of his injury.
"I'll get patched-up and hopefully put on another good performance. They have such a strong team and I'll need to play great tennis to win."
And the British number one celebrated with complete abandon as GB claimed the breaker to move within one set of a 2-1 lead in their quarter-final.
Buoyed by the elation of the tie-break win, the GB pair cantered to the fourth to ensure that GB go into tomorrow’s single rubbers – where Andy Murray takes on Gilles
Simon while James Ward faces Tsonga – one win away from a first semi-final berth since 1981.
