Japan's fifth seed hit 30 winners to complete a 50th win at a Grand Slam event in a match that started out on Sunday.
He remains on course to beat his best showing at the French Open, a quarter-final appearance at Roland Garros two years ago and will hope to emulate the level of form that forced Novak Djokovic to three hours before losing an epic semi-final over three sets in the Rome Masters semi-finals.
