British number four Dan Evans was knocked out by Tommy Robredo in the first round of the French Open win the Spaniard winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1.
Evans, who struggles on clay, surprised many by taking the first set after breaking in the 11th before serving out to win.
However Robredo quickly found his groove in the following sets and kept his cool, both figuratively and literally as Evans visibly wilted in the sweltering heat.
As the game progressed Evans' struggles continued with Robredo doing what he needed to do to keep winning games.
The Spaniard sealed the match in the fourth set without too many problems and secured progression to the next round.
The contrast in experience between the pair showed throughout as Evans, on the main draw in Paris for the first time, struggled to break down Robredo, who reached the quarter-finals here five times between 2003 and 2013.
By the end of the match Evans had more unforced errors (44) than he did winners (37)
