Garbine Muguruza sails into fourth round

Garbine Muguruza’s title defence at Roland Garros continued with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Yulia Putintseva in the French Open third round.
The Spaniard has only shown flashes of the form that carried her to the title in 2016, but she again did enough to halt a stubborn opponent who wilted as the match dragged on.
Muguruza fought back from an early break in the opening set, winning four games on the spin to leave her serving for it at 5-4. The topsy-turvy nature continued as she dropped serve, only to break again immediately and serve it out at the second attempt.
The second set was far more straight-forward, with two early breaks helping set up a fourth round clash with either Shelby Rogers or 13th seed Kristina Mladenovic.
