Second seed Karolina Pliskova recovered from losing the first set to complete a 2-6 6-3 6-4 win over world number 97 Verónica Cepede Royg in the French Open last 16.
A US Open finalist last year, the Czech world number three was made to fight all the way to reach the quarter-finals and a match with Caroline Garcia, who was a 6-2 6-4 winner over Alize Cornet in their last-16 match.
Paraguay's Cepede Royg had a break point while leading 4-3 in the decider, but Pliskova overcame that scare and won the remaining games.
Cepede Royg made an impressive start as she sprayed Court Suzanne Lenglen with winners but nerves eventually kicked in, allowing Pliskova to secure victory after one hour and 51 minutes
