WRAPUP 1-Tennis-Highlights of Wimbledon day one

July 2 (Reuters) - Top seed and defending champion Roger Federer began his quest for a record-extending ninth Wimbledon title with a convincing win over Serbian Dusan Lajovic on Monday.

The 36-year-old Swiss 35 winners and did not face a break point in a 6-1 6-3 6-4 victory over the world number 57 on Centre Court.
Three-times Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka returned to the All England Club in style, ousting sixth-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 1-6 7-6(3) 7-6(5) 6-4.
Wawrinka's ranking has plummeted to 224th as he continues to rediscover his form and fitness after knee surgery last year.
"I will do everything to be ready for the next round," said Wawrinka, who next faces Italian qualifier Thomas Fabbiano.
In the women's draw, seven-times champion Serena Williams marked her return to Wimbledon for the first time since becoming a mother with a 7-5 6-3 first-round win over Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus.
Serena's sister Venus overcame a slow start to claim a 6-7(3) 6-2 6-1 win over Swede Johanna Larsson.
Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki needed less than an hour to book her second-round spot, beating American Varvara Lepchenko 6-0 6-3.

Fifth seed Elina Svitolina struggled to find her rhythm as she committed 44 unforced errors in a 7-6(3) 4-6 6-1 defeat by Germany's Tatjana Maria.

1800 WAWRINKA SENDS DIMITROV PACKING
Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, whose ranking has plummeted to 224 after he suffered a knee injury, roared back from a set down to beat sixth-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 1-6 7-6(3) 7-6(5) 6-4.
"I was a bit surprised to fight that well after losing the first set 6-1, but I knew it was the only way," the Swiss said.
"I have been practising so hard to play at that level on Centre Court. I will do everything to be ready for the next one."
1700 SERENA BREEZES PAST RUS
Seven-times Wimbledon champion Serena Williams got her campaign off to the perfect start with a 7-5 6-3 victory over Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands.
1550 KARLOVIC BATTLES PAST YOUZHNY
Croatian Ivo Karlovic, making his 14th Wimbledon appearance at the age of 39, launched 36 aces in a 4-6 7-5 7-6(7) 6-3 victory over Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.
1520 VENUS SURVIVES LARSSON SCARE
Five-times champion Venus Williams overcame a slow start to beat Swede Johanna Larsson 6-7(3) 6-2 6-1 and avoid her third career first-round exit at the All England Club.
1500 STEPHENS BEMOANS TOUGH DAY AT OFFICE
American Sloane Stephens, runner-up at the French Open last month, admitted she struggled to make the transition from clay to grass after losing her opening-round match to Croatian Donna Vekic.
"Just a lot of things weren't going as I would have liked them to," Stephens told reporters. "Sometimes it happens.
"The balls from clay to grass are completely different. The ball stays very low here. You have to make a little bit more of an adjustment."
1455 WOZNIACKI RACES INTO SECOND ROUND
Second seed Caroline Wozniacki needed just under an hour to book a second-round spot, beating American Varvara Lepchenko 6-0 6-3.
1400 QUERREY PUTS WIMBLEDON AHEAD OF HONEYMOON
Sam Querrey, who got married to Abby Dixon last month, said he postponed his honeymoon plans to step up his grasscourt preparations for Wimbledon.
"We went home for three days and flew over for Queen's (Club), if you count that as a honeymoon," the 30-year-old American told reporters. "I don't think she (Abby) does."
"Maybe at the end of the year we will do a honeymoon somewhere close to where we live."

The 36-year-old Swiss will face either Lukas Lacko of Slovakia or France's Benjamin Bonzi in the second round.
1320 STEPHENS KNOCKED OUT
U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens fell at the first hurdle when she lost to unseeded Croatian Donna Vekic 6-1 6-3.
Stephens struggled throughout the opening-round encounter as she recorded 25 unforced errors.
1300 POUILLE PASSES KUDLA TEST
Frenchman Lucas Pouille, seeded 17th, dropped the third set but recovered well to put away American Denis Kudla 6-3 6-3 2-6 6-3 in just over two hours.
1230 CILIC CRUISES INTO ROUND TWO
Last year's runner-up Marin Cilic continued his fine run on grass this season with a 6-1 6-4 6-4 win over Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan.
The third-seeded Croatian claimed the Queen's Club crown last month for the second time in his career.
