Mandy Minella reaches the quarters in Switzerland

Mandy Minella made her first WTA Tour quarter-final since returning from maternity leave by beating second seed Johanna Larsson at the Ladies Championship Gstaad.

Luxembourg’s Minella returned to the tour in February after giving birth in October and beat Larsson 6-3 6-4 to make it into the last eight in Switzerland.

Third seed Viktoria Kuzmova is out after losing a pair of tie-breaks to qualifier Veronika Kudermetova but top seed Alize Cornet had no issues in getting past Conny Perrin 6-3 6-3.

Sam Stosur also made it through, as did Eugenie Bouchard, who came from a double break down in both of her sets against eighth seed Viktorija Golubic.

Bouchard saved seven set points across the match and won 7-6 (7/2) 7-6 (9/7).

At the BRD Bucharest Open, Petra Martic came through a contest that lasted over two and a half hours to beat Claire Liu.

Martic held three match points in the second set but could not get the job done then only to edge the decider to triumph 6-2 6-7 (5/7) 6-4.
