Roddick made a slow start to the match producing a few unforced errors gifting Kucera with easy points and a 2-0 lead. But the Amercian quickly got his game back together coming back in the score to level the first set.
Kucera was not willing to let go sending the set into a tie break that the Amercian won with no problem.
In the second, Roddick took matters into hands making the break in the first game. Kucera dug deep and tried to break back but the American was unstopable firing away torrid forehands.
Roddick closed up the match by breaking once more after Kucera produced his ninth double fault of the match.
Federer played a faultless match against the Belarussian, who never came close to breaking the third seeded Swiss.
"I'm very happy with the way I played, it's good if you don't have to save a break," Federer said.
Federer, 22 today, received a tennis racket birthday cake from the tournament organizers after his 57th win of the season, the highest total of the men's circuit this year.
Federer is poised to become the new leader of the ATP Champions Race after second seed Juan Carlos Ferrero lost in the third round against Karol Kucera.
The other quarter-finals pit world number one Andre Agassi against eighth seed Rainer Schuettler, while David Nalbandian plays Feliciano Lopez.
