There was "utter drama" out on Court Simonne-Mathieu as the 27th seed Yoshihito Nishioka took on Thiago Seyboth Wild in their hugely entertaining third-round clash at the French Open on Saturday. Nishioka was left very unhappy about a line call during the second set at a very key moment of the encounter, and he ultimately ended up receiving a code violation and having a point deducted.

'No way! No way! No way!' - Nishioka 'sees the red mist' over decision

Yoshihito Nishioka lost his cool in a big way and received a code violation from the umpire during his third-round match at the 2023 French Open on Saturday.
The 27-year-old was serving at a key moment at 5-5 and 30-30 in the second set against Thiago Seyboth Wild when he whipped a forehand cross-court and immediately celebrated what he felt was a clean winner.
However, the line judge called the ball out - a decision that the umpire ultimately confirmed as he got down from his chair and inspected the spot where he thought it landed. It was a decision that stunned Nishioka, who let out his emotions.
He received a point penalty from the moment he seemingly forgot that players are not allowed to cross the net without permission during a game. He proceeded to argue with the umpire on the court for a prolonged period.
Eventually, the umpire managed to calm Nishioka down, but he was penalised with a code violation and with a point deducted for his continued protests.
"No way! No way! No way!" Nishioka exclaimed. "No way! You can see [on the] video! No way, man! How?"
The umpire responded: "You have to accept my decision, whether you like it or not. The ball was called out; therefore, the score is 30-40.
"Mr Nishioka receives a code violation for crossing the net, that’s the second code violation, therefore it is a point penalty. Code violation, unsportsmanlike conduct."

Barry Cowan and Naomi Cavaday, on commentary for Eurosport at the time, gave their assessment of the events.
"That’s a point penalty! He needs a point penalty now," Cowan explained.
"What are you doing, Yoshihito? Oh no! He’s forgotten. You’ve got to feel for him. Unfortunately, they are the rules. You feel for him because he’s just seen the red mist. But the rules are the rules.
"This is utter drama! When we thought we couldn’t see more. The most unfortunate way to get broken, but the umpire is only playing to the rules, and [Nishioka] has forgotten the rules."
Cavaday added: "He’s got to be careful; he can’t just walk down here. He can't. You cannot go down the other end of the court without permission.
"Nishioka is wrong here. He’s clearly frustrated, and he wants to vent his frustration. Understandable."
