Serena Williams marries Alexis Ohanian in lavish ceremony

The couple took their vows in front of a congregation including Beyonce and Kim Kardashian as part of a Beauty and the Beast-themed event, according to reports.

Road closures sealed off the venue, the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, which is said to have been attended by 200 guests.

Reports suggested guests were asked to leave their mobile phones at home because of an exclusive deal with Vogue Magazine, the editor of which, Anna Wintour, was said to have also attended.

Fellow tennis player Maria Sharapova appeared have missed out on an invitation, having posted a picture of herself training in the gym on Thursday evening.

Williams announced her engagement to Ohanian in December last year after a 15-month relationship.

Having given birth to their daughter Alexis Olympia - with whom she was pregnant during her Australian Open victory last January - in September, Williams is expected to return to competition for the 2018 Australian Open.
