Iga Swiatek pulled off an unbelievable shot in a mixed doubles game against Kazakhstan, met with a tweet of approval from Roger Federer. She produced a ‘good return’ when it looked as though Grigoriy Lomakin had delivered a shot at the net too far wide for Swiatek to reach, but she reacted quickly to reply with a stunning low return outside of the posts to the back of the court for the point.

Roger Federer was blown away by a ‘crazy’ Iga Swiatek shot in a mixed doubles game between Poland and Kazakhstan at the United Cup in Australia.
Swiatek ended a rally with a stunning return after Grigoriy Lomakin had delivered a tricky shot that bounced well wide of the court, but the 21-year-old reacted quickly to produce a stunning low return outside of the posts to the back of the court for the point.
Lomakin had got tight to the net and fired a shot across the court that saw the ball bounce just inside the doubles tramline, and Swiatek darted towards the Umpire’s where the ball headed to, and pulled out a world-class low-driven return to win the game.
Her doubles partner, Hubert Hurkacz, stood in disbelief with his hands on his head as the crowd’s initial gasps turned into applause, and they weren’t the only ones to appreciate the effort.
Roger Federer took to Twitter to voice his reaction to the shot, calling it “crazy”.
“That was crazy,” he wrote, followed by three “mind-blown” emojis.
The shot helped Poland breeze past Kazakhstan in group B, as Swiatek and Hurkacz’s 6-3 6-4 result, matched with wins from Magda Linette and Hurkacz himself in a singles dual, handed Poland a 4-1 victory.
Swiatek soon gets her first Grand Slam of the season underway at the Australian Open, where she will go in as top seed and hope to win her first title down under in the absence of holder Ashleigh Barty.
