'Hungry' Cameron Norrie aiming to rebound in 2024 after 'disappointing' finish to season with Novak Djokovic loss

British No. 1 Cameron Norrie ended 2023 with six defeats from his last seven matches and slipped to No. 18 in the world rankings. He is eager for success at "big tournaments" next year as he looks for improvements. Norrie, who starts his 2024 season playing for Great Britain at the United Cup, has also spoken about looking forward to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Cameron Norrie says he is “hungry” for more success next year after a “disappointing” finish to 2023.
The 28-year-old has been climbing the rankings in recent seasons, helped by a first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells in 2021 and reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2022.
He had an encouraging start to this year as he went unbeaten at the United Cup, made two finals and beat Carlos Alcaraz to win the Rio Open.
However, he only reached four quarter-finals across the rest of the season and didn’t make it past the third round at any of the Grand Slams.
His season ended with six defeats from his last seven matches, leaving Norrie with mixed emotions on his campaign as a whole.
“It was still disappointing for me to finish the year how I did but still a lot of positives to take,” he told the Lawn Tennis Association.

“There was a lot of good stuff, a lot of learning obviously, but still got a title in Rio and I think that was the big highlight for me.
“I always want more, I’m still hungry. Still a lot of work to do and a lot of things to work on in pre-season. But yeah I’m going to be as ready as I can be.”
Norrie's dip in form has seen him slip down to No. 18 in the world rankings, having been as high as No. 8 towards the end of 2022.
“There’s a lot of things that I would like to achieve,” he added.
“I want to play well at the biggest tournaments and keep learning and keep going for it. I know I have got it in me to win some big tournaments. I have done that already but keep going with it.
“I have got three weeks pre-season. I would like for it to be a bit longer but it is what it is.
“I’m going to go there, work as hard as I can, and I have a great team around me, so getting as ready as I can for the first match.”
Norrie is set to start his new season by representing Great Britain at the United Cup.
At the United Cup this year he impressed with wins over Alex de Minaur, Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz.
“The level I was playing there was great and it’s a wonderful event to start the year, mixed event and you get matches against some top players, so perfect,” he said about the United Cup.
“We play Australia on the 29th and it’s a good goal to be ready for and I’m going to do everything I can to make myself available for that.”
Norrie’s 2023 season ended with defeat to Novak Djokovic at the Davis Cup Finals.
He will be back in Great Britain colours again at the United Cup, where he will be joined by Dan Evans, Neal Skupski, Katie Boulter, Fran Jones and Maia Lumsden.
Norrie could also be Great Britain’s leading singles player at the Paris Olympics next summer.
“All of us are pretty good friends, we all get along really well,” he said about the GB team.
“The Davis Cup has been really good for us and we can look forward to a good Olympics next year.
“A lot to look forward to for all of us and I am excited for Davis Cup as well next year.”
