Clinical Petra Kvitova races past Caroline Garcia to reach the fourth round at the US Open

Petra Kvitova breezed past Caroline Garcia on the way to a straight-sets victory on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Kvitova, the 13th seed in the Women's draw, put on a dazzling show of power and precision as she smashed her way past 18th seed Garcia in under an hour.
Garcia struggled to get going from the off and was served up a bagel by the Czech star, who took the opening set in just 26 minutes.

The second set was more of a contest as the Frenchwoman tried to battle her way back into the match but Kvitova landed the decisive break in the seventh game and closed it out 6-4 to set up a fourth-round meeting with Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza.
Venus Williams beat Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-3 6-4 to advance to the fourth round. Williams, the ninth seed, struggled with her serve against Sakkari, but had enough in her locker to get past her unseeded opponent in an hour and 15 minutes.

Carla Suarez Navarro held her nerve against Russian Ekaterina Makarova to win their third-round clash 6-1 3-6 6-3 and the Spaniard will face either American ninth seed Venus Williams in the fourth round.
American Sloane Stephens beat Australia's Ashleigh Barty 6-2 6-4 to reach the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in two years.

Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, the women's 16th seed, beat Croatian Donna Vekic 6-2 6-3, helped by her opponent's 29 unforced errors.
Maria Sharapova also advanced to the fourth round after warding off efforts by a spirited Sofia Kenin with a 7-5 6-2 win.
