The second all-American semi-final of the night – following Stephens’ triumph over Venus Williams – saw Keys offer no break points to close friend Vandeweghe in a commanding performance.
Like Stephens, Keys advances to her first Grand Slam final, and the pair will battle for their maiden major on Saturday, live on Eurosport from 9pm BST.
It caps a remarkable comeback for Keys, who required second surgery on her wrist after the French Open following a botched first operation in the off-season.
Keys and Vandweghe's meeting at Flushing Meadows was their third in under a month, and it was the former who prevailed in both of their previous encounters in Cincinnati and Stanford.
And a relentless Keys dropped just four points as a double-break helped her to a 5-0 lead in the opening set.
Vandeweghe managed to avoid the bagel in the following game, but Keys closed out the set in just 23 minutes, having hit 14 winners to two unforced errors.
The second set started with an important hold for Vandeweghe, but her resolve did not last long as Keys broke twice to lead 4-1.
Keys did take a medical time out to get some treatment on her right leg, but that merely delayed the inevitable as she came back on court to close out the victory after one hour and eight minutes on court.
