Federer, the third seed at SW19, never looked in any trouble as he outplayed Zverev in fading light to close out a packed schedule on Centre Court.
The Swiss had to take the first set via a tie-break with the 27th seed ensuring that his illustrious opponent was forced to battle to gain the ascendancy.
But it was easier going thereafter for Federer as he won the second and third sets in comfortable fashion to close out the match inside two hours.
Federer's straightforward victory sees him set up a mouthwatering match-up against 13th seed Grigor Dimitrov, who raced past Dudi Sela.
As the Centre Court crowd rose to mark another supreme performance from Federer, it was again clear that he will be incredibly difficult to beat.
The quarter-finals now await if he can find a way past Dimitrov, who will surely be a tricky opponent on the grass, even for Federer.
