'Record-breaking bet' made on Andy Murray to win second title

One tennis fan is so confident that Britain’s Andy Murray is going to triumph at Wimbledon this year that they have placed an enormous bet on it.
The bet has made headlines after a bookmaker revealed that a £50,000 stake had been placed on Murray to emerge victorious at the All England Club.
Reported to be the largest bet ever placed on tennis in the UK, the individual’s risk could return winnings of a staggering £175,000 if the British number one wins the men’s singles title for a second time.
The Scotsman newspaper reported that the anonymous punter from Aberdeen accepted the odds being offered by Ladbrokes of 5/2 that Murray would regain his title at SW19.
A Ladbrokes spokesman said: “Our Murray fan in Aberdeen has given his hero the ultimate vote of confidence with this record-breaking bet.”
An estimated 8,000 people packed the courts on the opening day of the Championships on Monday with some fans reportedly queuing for 54 hours to secure a seat on Centre Court.
But there will be one person more nervous than anyone else when Murray begins his campaign against Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan on Tuesday and if he progresses through the fortnight.
Murray is the second favourite to win the men’s singles title with the bookmaker, behind world number one Novak Djokovic who is priced at 5/4.
Swiss legend Roger Federer is 7/1 to capture an eighth Wimbledon crown, while Rafael Nadal is 20/1 to grab a third behind French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, who is priced at 14/1.
