The world No 1 kept his concentration despite two rain delays to emerge 6-1 6-4 6-2.
There had been fears last week that the Briton may not be able to defend his title after he withdrew from two exhibition matches at The Hurlingham Club with a hip problem.

But he showed no ill effects and dispatched his inexperienced Kazakh opponent to set up a clash with Germany's Dustin Brown.
"With the adrenaline, it helps numb some pain that you might have and I moved well today," Murray told the BBC.
"I thought I did pretty well for the first match.
"I'll spend some time with my physio this evening, get an ice bath, then have a light practice tomorrow.
"I'll work a bit on my passing shots and lobs because it will be a different match against Dustin Brown.”
