Wimbledon 2018: Novak Djokovic ends Kyle Edmund charge despite farcical point
Updated 07/07/2018 at 21:55 GMT
Novak Djokovic avenged his defeat to Kyle Edmund at the Madrid Open with a four-set victory in front of a zealous Centre Court at Wimbledon.
The three-time champion was aghast when Edmund hit a double-bouncing ball, let go of his racquet and touched the net at 3-3 in the fourth set. The umpire awarded the point to the British number one, a decision made even more ridiculous given it landed in the tramlines.
However, Djokovic steadied to quickly break his opponent and wrap up a 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 win.
He will face Karen Khachanov in the last 16 after the big-hitting Russian battled back from two sets down to beat Frances Tiafoe.
Edmund had looked on course to repeat his heroics on the Spanish clay after squeaking the first set, but he was ultimately outclassed on the quicker surface.
