Stefanos Tsitsipas defeat Dominic Thiem in a five-set epic, while Russia's Daniil Medvedev returned to Wimbledon and he won his first-round match against Britain's unseeded Arthur Fery. Taylor Fritz also progressed into the second round, and he was joined by two top-10 ranked players, with Francis Tiafoe and Danish youngster Holger Rune also winning their first-round ties.

Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Dominic Thiem 3-6 6-7(1-7) 2-6 7-6(7-5) 6-6(8-10) in one of the best matches of Wimbledon so far this year.
The fifth seed had perhaps the toughest match-up of any of the seeded players at SW19, as he came up against the hugely talented and experienced Thiem, who has struggled with injury in recent years.
29-year-old Thiem won the US Open just three years ago, though admittedly he is not an expert on grass having never progressed beyond the fourth round in London.
Neither had his Greek opponent, and after a draining epic that saw the players go through three set tie-breaks he will come up against another tough veteran in the second round, Britain's Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion.
Daniil Medvedev reached the second round of Wimbledon after he battled past unseeded Brit Arthur Fery on Wednesday afternoon in straight sets, 7-5 6-4 6-3.
The win was Medvedev's 60th at Grand Slam events.
The third seed will next play Adrian Mannarino, who beat Medvedev on grass last month, or Alexander Shevchenko.
Medvedev made the first break against Fery to go 3-2 up in the opening set, only for the Brit to take advantage of a double fault from the Russian and break back immediately.
At 5-5, the players were forced off for a rain delay which lasted around half an hour. Medvedev made a blistering return to court and broke Fery in the opening game after the resumption.
The world No.3 served out to take the opening set 7-5.
Fery fought valiantly in the second and having gone a break down, he broke Medvedev to love to level things at 4-4. However, Medvedev ruthlessly broke straight back before serving out to move a set away from progressing.
Things were pretty even when Medvedev was at 2-2, and he started to get frustrated with his own efforts, complaining to his team on the sidelines as he missed the chance to break with a couple of opportunities before eventually succeeding.
Medvedev then went 4-2 clear as he held his serve, and he fired in a ruthless return to a drop shot form Fery as he threatened to break once again, and as he continued to dominate he left Fery serving to stay in the match.
Fery fell 15-40 behind on his own serve, and while he held on for another point with a clever drop shot, Medvedev took the next point to move into the second round.
Taylor Fritz made a brief appearance to wrap up his five-sets win over Yannick Hanfmann in the early evening.
The match was 6-4 2-6 4-6 7-5 3-2 in the American's favour on Monday when rain stopped play, and after another interrupted session he was back out on to win the final set 6-3.
Francis Tiafoe remains on course in his attempt for his best Wimbledon performance after clearing the first round.
The 25-year-old American's best performance is a fourth-round exit, achieved last year, but the world No. 10 won in Stuttgart on grass last month to give him cause for optimism.
He beat China's Wu Yibing in straight sets 7-6(7-4) 6-3 6-4 on Court 3 to progress to round two.
Holger Rune was able to cruise past Britain's George Loffhagen in three sets 7-6(7-4) 6-3 6-2 in his first round match, as the he moved past some initially stiff resistance from the unseeded home player.
The 20-year-old Dane is yet to get past the second round at Wimbledon - and only won his first grass match as a senior at this year's Queen's tournament.
Late in the evening, No. 8 Jannik Sinner made his way into round three with a straight sets win over Argentine Diego Schwartzmann, with a dominant 7-5 6-1 6-2 display.
