Johanna Konta battled to a nailbiting 7-5 3-6 6-4 victory over French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko at Eastbourne on Thursday.
Fresh from her surprise win at Roland Garros earlier this month, the Latvian gave Konta a run for her money in her own backyard.
Konta edged to a 7-5 victory in the first set, despite losing her opening service game.
Looking powerful in the second set, Konta was nonetheless unable to get the better of a strong backhand by the 20-year-old and failed to defend set point at 5-3 down.
In the third and final set, Ostapenko appeared to have Konta on the ropes as she won three games in a row to take the score to 4-2 in her favour, but Konta made a successful challenge to rapturous applause, breaking back against the world no. 14.
Ostapenko started to show her frustration as she made consecutive unforced errors allowing Konta to draw level.
Going on to break Ostapenko, the Briton was serving for the match, but her opponent's pressure was relentless, creating two break points for herself and defending a further two match points before Konta sealed the deal on the third.
Konta will play world no.1 Angelique Kerber in the quarter-finals.
