Coco Gauff races past Jodie Burrage at Eastbourne to reach quarter-finals of Wimbledon warm-up event

Coco Gauff had few problems overcoming British world No. 128 Jodie Burrage as she produced a near-flawless display against the 2023 Nottingham Open finalist. Gauff will play good friend Jessica Pegula in the next round in Eastbourne as the 19-year-old looks to continue to get match practice on grass ahead of the Wimbledon main draw, which starts next week.

Coco Gauff is through to the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International after a comprehensive 6-1 6-1 win over Britain's Jodie Burrage.
Gauff, who is bidding to win her first Grand Slam title at the upcoming Wimbledon, was pleased with her display against the Brit, who reached the Nottingham Open final less than two weeks ago.
Next up for the 19-year-old in the last eight is a meeting with good friend and regular doubles partner Jessica Pegula after she beat Camila Osorio 6-2 1-6 6-3.
"I feel like I'm playing at a higher level today," Gauff said after the match.
"Jodie has had a couple of good weeks on grass, making a final a couple of weeks ago so hopefully she can have a good run at Wimbledon.
"Every point matters, even though in the last game I was up, I was still mad that I lost it. You never know what happens. I think that's what you have to be.
"If you underestimate your opponent it's disrespectful to your game and your opponent and you're probably not going to end up winning if you do that."
The 19-year-old had very few problems against Burrage and broke the Briton's serve in only the fourth game of the match to move into a 3-1 lead.
Gauff then reeled off the next three games to wrap up the first set in just 30 minutes.
The second set was equally straightforward for the American who broke in the opening game. A third double fault of the match from Burrage handed Gauff break point and she took it when Burrage hit a backhand at the net wide.
The unforced error count kept rising from Burrage and she double faulted to hand Gauff the eighth game in a row to go 3-0 up.
Burrage saved two break points at 4-0 down, but she could not prevent the third from going the way of Gauff, who converted with a backhand winner at the net.
Burrage prevented the bagel from Gauff who was serving for the match, which drew cheers from the crowd - but the No. 5 seed finished the match off in the very next game.
