Venus Williams believes she can come back stronger than ever from her recent injury nightmare. And the five-time major winner is aiming for a place in the top 16 of the women's world rankings by the time the French Open comes around in May.
Williams won the Tier III Cellular South Cup in Memphis at the weekend, her first competitive tournament since October following a spell out with a wrist injury.
"I really have nothing to prove," Williams said after beating 17th-ranked Shahar Peer of Israel, 6-1, 6-1 in 68 minutes in Saturday's final.
"I feel like I understand what I have to do, myself, as far as my talent. I understand how hard I've worked.
"And I think, time and again, Serena and I have, when we've come back from injury, we've come back just as good - if not better."
Williams plans to take three weeks off with plans to work on her fitness and strength ahead of her next tournament, the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
"My goal is definitely to be in the top 16 by the French. I think that's pretty reachable," she added.
Winning in Memphis, her 34th career title, will lift Williams back in to the top 40.
