Patty Schnyder took just 46 minutes to beat American Chanda Rubin 6-2 6-2 and move into the second round of the Stuttgart Grand Prix on Monday.
The fifth seed from Switzerland took full advantage of an opponent who was playing only her fifth match in 14 months after suffering recurring ankle and knee injuries.
At one stage Schnyder won 16 consecutive points, and did not give up a point on serve until she led 5-2, 40-0 and some slack play allowed her opponent to level at deuce.
Rubin, under new rules being tested by the WTA, called for her coach at the end of the first set, but it made little difference.
The American at least managed to engage Schnyder in some rallies but a netted smash and then a forehand error gave Schnyder a double break and 3-0 lead.
Rubin managed to break an overly-casual Schnyder in the next game, but that only delayed the inevitable. A double-fault gave Schnyder a final break for 5-2 and she served out the match.
In the only other match on the opening day of the $650,000 event, Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands defeated Australia's Samantha Stosur 6-2 6-7 6-1 to earn a second round meeting with top seed Amelie Mauresmo.
Mauresmo received a first round bye, along with second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, third seed Elena Dementieva and fourth seed Nadia Petrova.
Kuznetsova is coming off recent back-to-back tournament victories in Bali and Beijing which returned her to a career-high ranking of four.
Dementieva is seeking to build on her recent quarter-final finish at the U.S. Open, and Petrova is trying to get back on track after injury in May halted a winning streak that saw her claim titles in Doha, Amelia Island, Charleston and Berlin.
