Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Kazakhstan, and France, who shocked the US favourites in the ice dance, all celebrated victories in Lake Placid.
The first gold medal of the day was won by the Czech Republic's Jan Zabystran, who put in an error-free run to land the men's Super-G at Whiteface Mountain.
While in the women's Super-G, Fabiana Dorigo took gold for Germany after the 24-year-old posted a blistering time of 52.18 early in the contest.
Shortly after, it was gold for Kazakhstan in the men's individual 15km biathlon as Vadim Kurales put in an excellent performance on the shooting range, missing just one shot in his four visits.
Canada also tasted victory for the first time in Lake Placid on Saturday as Shilo Rousseau overcame some wayward rifle work to land the women's 12.5km individual biathlon. Despite a miss in her first and last round, she still had enough in hand to take the gold from Barbara Skrobiszewska of Poland.
And Saturday's proceedings ended with a massive shock in the ice dance at the Olympic Center as France's Marie Dupayage and Thomas Nabais scored a stunning 107.32 to steer victory away from the strong US favourites Lorraine McNamara and Anton Spiridonov.
Saturday also saw more action in the curling with the continuation of the men's and women's round robin, and the group stages of the ice hockey rolled on, which included a dominant 8-0 victory for the US men over South Korea.
Sunday sees more gold medals on the line in cross-country skiing, speed skating, nordic combined and figure skating, with the hotly-anticipated men's and women's singles taking place in the Olympic Center.
