However, track and field dominated proceedings, with the men's and women's 100m final at Shuangliu Sports Centre Stadium taking centre stage.
Jamaica's Kadrian Dwayne Goldson clocked 10.04 seconds to claim the men's 100m gold medal, with Phatutshedzo Shaun Maswanganyi of South Africa taking silver in 10.06, and Chen Guanfeng of China had bronze.
The women's 100m final saw a European 1-2-3 as Patrizia Van Der Weken of Luxembourg clocked 11.22 seconds to win the gold medal, with Viktoria Forster of Slovakia taking silver in 11.34 and Magdalena Lindner of Austria winning bronze.
And it was a stunning day for Poland in the field as they won three golds - Oskar Stachnik winning the men's discus, Konrad Bukowiecki taking victory in the men's shot put, and Nikola Horowska taking the top spot in the women's long jump.
Those successes saw Poland move up to 5th in the medal standings, but China are still flying high at the top of the table with 36 golds.
The host nation added nine golds to their tally on Wednesday, including four in the pool, the highlight being Mixed 4 x 100m Medley Relay and Qin Haiyang swimming to victory in the Men's 100m Breaststroke in a new Games record.
On the shooting range, China won gold in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team and 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team, while Zhang Wenao led home a Chinese 1-2 in the Men's 3m Springboard at the Chengdu Universiade.
Thursday sees the action continue, and track and field will again be front and centre with ten gold medals on offer, including the finals of the Men's and Women's 400m, the Women's 800m, and the Men's 1500m.
Gold medals are also up for grabs in diving, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, and wushu in what's set to be another thrilling day of competition.
