Held in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar from 1-5 June, the 2016 FISU World University Archery Championships featured 212 student athletes from 23 countries.
But it was the representatives of South Korea who made the biggest splash in the Central Square Chingiss Khaan venue – going home with eight gold medals and one silver to top the medal standings ahead of Russia and India.
Although Korea's Seongcheol Park was beaten in the bronze medal match of the men's recurve having earlier lost the semi-finals to Russia's Gaisan Bazarhapov, who went on to secure the gold in the final, Korea recovered to win all the remaining events except the women's team compound (won by India).
Chae Young Kang won the women's recurve while there were victories for Jongho Kim and Soyoung Ko in the men's and women's compound respectively. Kim and Ko combined to win the mixed team compound, while Park redeemed himself with victory in the men's team recurve and alongside Kang in the recurve mixed team.

There were further gold medals for Korea in the men's and women's team compound, while Kang picked up a third gold in the women's team recurve – a welcome tonic after the 2015 debutant, who last year won three gold medals at her first international event, missed out on Olympic selection for Rio 2016.
Korea's silver medal came in the women's recurve, where Su Jung Ryoo made it a one-two behind Kang.
Russia finished second on the medal table with one gold, two silver and three bronze medals, while India's solitary gold in the women's team compound put them in third place despite Chinese Taipei's hail of three silver and one bronze medal.
Turkey won two silver medals, France won a silver and a bronze, the USA won three bronzes, Belgium one silver and both Malaysia and Japan a bronze.
The 11th World Archery University Championships was also the last – with archery set to become a permanent sport at the Summer Universiade, at which is has been included as an optional sport at three of the last four editions.
The 2017 Summer Universiade takes place in the Taiwan capital of Tapei from 18 to 30 August 2017.
